View Full Version : Gingrich excoriates elite media over
making Limbaugh the great national crisis of the week, poor David Greogory at meet the depressed, more worried about birth control than rise-ing fuel prices, and the plite of the unemployed. http://www.theblaze.com/stories/gingrich-excoriates-elite-media-for-making-limbaugh-the-great-national-crisis-of-this-week/ maybe some of you can explain to yubba why the elite media doesn't want talk about the real issues at hand.
Ask the GOP why they are cutting there own throats by making non-issues like birth control, same-sex marriage, religious-based initiative, the "unfairness" of the "liberal" media, etc. primary issues instead of making concrete, detailed, cogent proposals to issues like unemployment, outsourcing overseas, financial institution manipulation/corruption, holding legally and criminally responsible those who got the country in this mess, etc. It is sad To watch the GOP getting flushed down the drain by catering to the whining and shouting of the most radical, non-critical; in terms of relevance to real issues affecting the entire country, not just very minority special interest groups. Time and time again, the GOP would rather make the non-issues the spotlight rather than really take the lead and deal with reality. If the GOP doesn't right ship and take the country's problems seriously, they are going down the same path as the Dems when they catered to MCGovern, McCarthy and the others who nearly sank their party...

Because the news media does not just cover stories that a political candidate wants to be covered.
Because the news media does not just cover stories that a political candidate wants to be covered.
Conversly, the candidates don't want covered or discussed stories they don't want to discuss if it means actually having to take a stand or make a cogent proposal; it's easier to wrap yourself in the flag or "religious" morality than actually solve a real problem. It's the circus portion of "bread and circuses"...

I, too, would direct the question back to the GOP. If Team R does not want to discuss social conservatism, Team R's candidates should probably stop talking about social conservatism. As soon as Santorum and Gingrich started using their social stances to show their differences with both Obama and Romney, those differences became part of the national discourse. You'd better be prepared to chow down if you open that can of worms.

I agree that "team r" needs to stop taking the bait. However, the national media - and the current administration - has been trying to find a way to NOT talk about the economy, unemployment, gas prices, etc. They know they can't win those arguments - so they set the bait with Stephanapolous (spelled wrong but oh well) on the whol "can a state ban contraception" question in the debates. Team R takes the bait and that is their own fault - but who set the trap, and why should be part of the discussion.
There is nothing to stop Gingrich and 'Team R' from speaking out about real issues on media programming. If George S. wants to lead with contrception, answer instead with a cogent comment or proposal about the economy. What is George going to do: throw him off the show?. In fact, I really believe most of these shows would welcome a politician of any stripe whio would openly and honestly deal with major, important issues. When I saw the title of this thread "Gingrich excoriates elite media...", my initial reaction was "What else is new?". Now if the caption was "Gingrich details bold plan to revive the economy", we'd hace something there...

I'm just amazed that yubba used the word "excoriates"...spelled correctly, too.

I think it's a way of trying to lure in the values voters to an otherwise unexciting Republican field. But the way I see it, it's backfiring by alienating women and the social moderates.

First, I have also given up on trying to spell Stephanapolous (or whatever) correctly. Secondly, no one is baiting Santorum. He is talking about the seperation of church and state and theology all on his own. Those have been his talking points for at least the last 15 years. He genuinely believes what he says about the matters and his proud of that. It belongs in the national debate. I would agree that those issues are 'losers', if you will, for the GOP and that Team D is all too happy to have them at the forefront accordingly, but it is the Republicans that have themselves to blame, not the media.
As for Limbaugh and Gregory, meh. They're non-factors. Pundits like to talk, and they especially like to talk about each other.
Go back to the '92 campaign, GHW Bush vs Clinton. Remember the debate where GHWB was nattering about hid '1,000 points of light' and all the other non-issues with which the GOP was trying to placate the voters. The minute that guy in the audience got up and called GHWB on his avoidance of the economy, the debate and the election was won by Clinton who did address the issues. The popular saying at the time was "It's the economy, stupid!" The GOP then, and now, rather chose to give on to the harpies on the extreme right instead of dealing with reality. The sight of GHWB, fully chastened, standing there constantly sneaking glances at his watch spoke volumes about what was wrong then with the GOP and what is wrong now. I really believe the American voters would get behing someone, anyone, who took the problems that affect their everyday lives honestly and seriously...
:haha::haha:you know,, there is a god, you just can't make this stuff up, :har:food and energy prices going through the roof and, the big concern in D.C, the big debate is brithcontrol, well if there had been alot more condum use 30 or 40 years ago we would have alot less, fools supporting this government.:har::har: enjoy

hey I copied it who needs spell check when I got you guys, makes my whole life easier when I got some one else to do the hard work:O: and yet no one can answer my question why can't the media seem to report on the real issues of the day, it can't be that hard, like the 44 million people that are on foodstamps, what's going on at the border, the billions of dollars wasted, why 1200 companies got waviers from obama care, and here's a good how many coal fire electric plants will be taken off line because of the EPA.??????????????????

Coincidentally, I once worked at a film production company with George's brother, Andrew. He sought out the job about the same time George was making a name for himself in the Clinton '92 campaign. Andrew was trying to break into the behind the camera side of Hollywood. We used to give him a bit of grief about George's connect to Clinton. Andrew was really a very decent, soft spoken fellow and a good sport. I was surprised when he told me that his father was a cleric in the Greek Ortodox Church; talk about a 180 from one's father's profession...

maybe some of you can explain to yubba why the elite media doesn't want talk about the real issues at hand.
Because some frothing at the mouth wingnut decided to make an idiot of himself and call it news, his version of it became a bigger story when he ranted even louder when he was told he was being an idiot and then snowballed when his advertising revenue came under threat as good old business interests don't like to be associated with complete idiots.
So in short the reason why the media is covering that angle of the story is because an idiot made it news.
Therefore if you want to complain about that part of the story being in the news blame that prat Rush.
As for the real news behind that drug addled junkies rants on his "news" show
Thats a scary story, some theocrat is propsing again that employers can withdraw healthcare for their workers based on thier own religious views, so if for example your company gets bought by a christian scientist your healthcare plan will in theory legally be able to be restricted to prayers of healing:doh:
Isn't it funny that yubba is ranting about certain stories not being covered yet when you get past the Rush oxycontin fueled rants this story is actually reporting about one of those stories that are errrrr....."not reported" according to yubba, but perhaps he didn't know what the story really was:rotfl2:
