Does this game use more than 2gig of system RAM or could I use the 4gig Patch to edit the .exe to get SH4 to use 4 gig of RAM as has been done with SH5?

THANKS!

Many folks here, including myself use the 4gig patch. Has helped me not only in this sim, but in all my flight sims as well! Really a great little utility:yep:

Fish40, I asked this in another thread, so this is just covering my bases: Is there a particular version that the 4Gb patch is looking for? I tried to apply it to v1.5.0,0 but the program says I have an unidentified version. Have you seen this before? I tried to apply the patch to a basic, un-modded 1.5.

Use this LAA enabler instead: http://www.techpowerup.com/forums/showthread.php?t=112556

How do you know if it worked?

:hmmm: in what sense?

If you want to see, if the LAA-bit is set or not, run the program...

If you want to see memory use, you'll find a test-setup here: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=177503

There are no un-wanted side effects in using the LAA-app, so test away!

Game runs fine on my box, 2GB RAM, without a stand-alone video card.

Um, all the CTD's went away, never to return?

I had the same problem trying to apply the 4Gb patch - wrong version (??). An especially meddening CTD happened consistenly when I happened upon 2 fleet carries, an escort carrier, severl CGs, etc. at 25-50N, 136-00E at about 4:00 am (local time) on 8/17/42 - the second the first torpedo struck the lead CV the game would CTD! I tried turning off all extra video options, etc. with the same effect each time. After running the LAA program, After turning on all video options to the max settings, I ran the same scenario, this time sinking 2 fleet CVs, one Escort CV and damaging a BB! No CTD's then, or since. I believe it works!

As you can see in my sig. box below, I have a fairly powerful system. It had to be the 2Gb problem.:salute:

Another thing you can try, though I've never tried it myself (haven't had the need), is to use an ordinary thumb drive of 2GB or more. Since (I think) Windows XP and up, you can insert a blank thumb drive and a menu prompt will appear asking what you want to use the thumb drive for. Just select "Speed Up My System". I don't know how effective it will be, but it's much faster than Virtual Memory on a HD.

...I believe it works!Run Process Monitor from above thread, run scenario, screendump of PM result, disable LAA, run scenario, screendump of PM and...

Voila! Now it's documented! :smug:

i realize that this is a three year thread but i am having the same problem of CTD except that my system crashes when i am on the way back to pearl at the end of mission.

i've applied the LAA fix and that did not make a difference.

A full system crash is not the same problem. First thing I would check is system temps. A bad fan and/or dust buildup can definitely cause that sort of problem. There many system temp monitoring utilities out there. Pick one and run it.
