Hey all, long time no post. I'm currently involved in a play that takes place on a US ship off the coast of Korea and was wondering if anyone knew of a source for khaki officer BDUs or something that is close. We're playing two LtJGs (Fire Control Officers) and I really want it to look authentic. Are there any places that offer replicas of this type? I've been doing searches and have found great pics of what I want but no actual places to purchase. Another thing, I found a pic of a LtJG from about 1952 and aside from his hat he doesn't seem to be wearing any pins or insignia denoting his rank. Was this the norm while on active duty?
Any info appreciated,
-LG

The uniform regulations of the Navy during the Korean War time period where the same as during WWII.
The officer you describe was skimping on the uniform a bit.You can just look up the modern US Navy Standards generally speaking the requirements for
displaying rank and such have not changed very much.
What uniform are you referring to there was no such thing as BDUs in those days the work uniform for naval officers are just called khakis the work version just lacked the coat most times officers are supposed to wear ties top enlisted did not wear ties but could/can wear khakis.
You are talking about the type uniform on the left yes? http://www.history.navy.mil/photos/images/k04000/k04538.jpg
Your best bet is find someone who makes reenacting uniforms and have them make you one or you could try to find a surplus one a an Army/Navy store top enlisted also wore the tans like that so there should be plenty around.
here you go $95.00 bucks
http://www.bostoncostume.com/Uniforms-c125/ just kidding those look like a love child between Elvis and a duffle bag.
If you want to look like a military officer get one made for you or find a real surplus one that is your size if you want to look authentic you need
a former military preferably former Navy man to show you how you should look. The guys on above web site any person in the military looking that sloppy and sorry
would be a disgrace. I love the middle USAF one he is wearing the Technical Sergeant strips and General stars but an enlisted mans hat and none of the AF hats are correct for Officers the Marine "Drill Sergeant" is not wearing red "blood" stripes on his pants. If you want to look correct find someone in your area that makes the uniforms for reenactors they know what they are doing and might give you a uniform just for the show.

You could try an "Army-Navy"/ Surplus store.
