If this gets done in really huge dimension, it would change the world. 70% of the planet's agriculture currently is being run to support lifestock and meat-production.
However, nothing comes from nothing. To create these ammounts of needed artificial meat, according ressources must come from somewhere.
We also need to wait and learn about longterm effects of eating such meat frequently, and whether it has a additional unwanted effect on man's organism, or not. We speak about many years, and decades. Which does not mean necessarily that they will wait so long before opening the market for it. whether that will show to be a curse or a blessing, remains to be seen.

I think this is definitely something worth investigating. It might be a while before it goes into production, but well worth looking at.

I have no problem with that. I eat meat for the taste of it, if the taste is the same then who cares. As long as there are no bad side efects like Sky said.

I would say it would need to be carefully and extensively researched if it proves to be safe good idea.

This scared me so much I immediately ran down to Whataburger and order a couple cheeseburgers.

I do not eat most fast food either but alot of people do.Whataburger is not too bad neither is Fiveguys.
McDonalds,Burger King,Wendy's are all slop.

Best burger I ever ate was at Omega Burger in Galena Park, TX.

Also too I read somewhere the reason for this synthetic meat wasn't to save the cow or to be kind to the enviroment. But rather it stems from the real necessity of keeping up with the ever increasing demand to feed an ever increasing human population. That ever increasing population will also encroach on the very fields used to raise and support livestock. Less room and space needed to grow tasty synthomeats. :D

I recall when soyburgers first hit the market. Many people thought they were going to get to be the norm. They weren't that healthy, being full of sodium and filler. The aftertaste made them horrible too. Even toothpaste and mouthwash didn't seem to damp it. (Although there are some meatless burgers nowadays that don't seem bad)
If Test-Tube Burger tastes OK, has good texture and is affordable, then I wouldn't mind. That's a lot of hurdles to overcome though.

And like with soy, this manufactured "meat" will be blended with real meat.
Now if you want to really try a good burger, there is nothing like going to Burger Jack's and ordering a Shrimp Burger. It was located behind the embassies in South Korea.

actually I once read that a meat-like substance ready to eat they already have created somewhere, it shouldmhave tasted like meat, but not having had its unique and irregular consistency.
I am quite certain they will get there sooner or later. Would hopefully also rid us from antibiotics-infested meat.
many people like baloney, i mean waht in German is called "Fleischwurst". that is meat that get fluidized by adding some encyms, stirred, and then gets solidified again. you do not know what kind of meat it was, from how many different sources. It is just a soft, rosy mass that reminds of marsh mallows, and tastes of many things maybe - but certainly not of meat. I find that much more disgusting to eat than the idea to eat meat that got "farmed" in a test tube, if it has a natural consistency, taste and structure.
Not much meat eating here anyway. I do not make a religion of avoiding meat. I just have lost interest in eating it.
They should do the same test tube thing with fish meat. Fish farming like they do now is a very big environmental problem. some say the local problems are bigger than with concentrated mass farming of cattle. Different to meat, I like to eat fish, Thuna and simple white Salmon. but no Sushi for me, please. I hate Sushi.

When birdflu that spreads directly to other people hits the fan, the trouble with overpopulation is over. On topic: I'd like to see in the future a meat incubator apparatus sold directly to consumers, so everybody could grow their own meat in their kitchen or whatever.

Nothing can ever replicate the taste of a properly cooked prime rib roast, with succulent aus jus gravy.

Just like turkey bacon is to bacon, it is just salty, nothing else resembles the taste.
Then I worry about all the chemicals added, as if antibiotics are worse, as some people mention. (enter monsanto conspiracy here)
I wonder what synthetic chemicals they will add, that make it worse in the long run.
Reminds me of a popular sugar subsititute called High Fructose Corn Syrup, who's appearance in our country seems to match the timeline on our obesity epidemic...
( but it is cheaper, can't hurt the "job creators")
Always a negative, I prefer the steroided up cow, I been eating my whole life, to the mystery meat, with added mystery chemicals to replicate taste..
I suppose next we move to soylent green, you all know what that is made of right?
