It's June 1944. I'm sailing out of Bergen in my spiffy Type XXI, my 3rd mission.
As I'm heading southeast I pick up one of our own convoys taking supplies down to Wilhelmshaven. 3 destroyers and 7 or so merchies including a couple towing barrage balloons.
Suddenly we get a radio report of a taskforce southwest of us coming our way. So I tuck into the convoy and sail along with them.
Sure enough, we start detecting their radar - 6 or 7 destroyers heading for us. I submerge, and the battle begins. They are pounding away at my surface stuff and they back at them. I fire my Type V accousting homing torpedoes. Sadly 2 go into the same escort - that one blew sky-high!
I took out all the rest of them, too. But I got no credit for any of the kills because they were taking constant fire from my friendlies. :(
But I had to return to base afterwards. During my attack I got too close to one of the escorts and they dropped a can right on top of my conning tower. It destroyed the watch tower and all equipment on the tower. I could not even put people up on the bridge. With no scopes left for attack, I sailed back to Bergen for repairs.
But I felt like I had participated in a real-life convoy action and helped defend our ships against the British aggressors! :)
We lost 4 of our own ships.
