View Full Version : Docking at Brisbane

It's mid-April 1943 and I'm returning to Brisbane. I departed from that port as well. When I got near enough, it gave me the option of either refitting or docking, but not 'end patrol'. I clicked 'refit' and it refitted my boat (and refilled the torpedo banks save for the tubes themselves), but now it won't let me dock. I just got back from sinking over 50,000 tons of merchants, my crew's tired, and several are deserving of promotions and medals. Anyone encountered this before? Or does the game do this if you've got a Balao-class sub? (Which is what I have.)

Does Brisbane have the 'tilted' (fouled) anchor? If not, it means you have been assigned to another home port. Bases were moved either closer or farther to enemy waters, according to strategic requirements, and individual boats were assigned to leave from one base and return to another for refit, etc. If none of the above applies, and it still shows up as your home base, I got no idea. :-?

Some ports show up as light blue anchors with lines through them, but Brisbane is dark blue with no lines, if that helps any.

post #2 was the correct answer. Depends on mods, but if you took a new boat that was a Bal last go, check Pearl for your home base. You have to watch those port changes by the tilted anchor.

That's the problem...I have no fouled or tilted anchors on my map; they're either light blue with lines (ex: Honiara or Tulagi) or dark blue with no lines (ex: Brisbane, Midway, and Pearl). All the anchors are standing straight up. Seems kind of stupid that they'd base me out of Brisbane for one patrol and then expect me to return to Pearl Harbor. I sent regular progress reports, but received no orders after expending all my torpedoes...nothing as to which base to return to.

This happend to me once, I think. Youd have to take a guess as the where they actully sent you and head there. Its a pain, but not much you can do :/

Yoy dont have to guess, if you pay atention to the radio messages from fleet (PAC NEWS) you will recieve a message that you home base must retreat to safe position and youre "docking port" has changed to for example Surabaya.

Good hunting.

I never got that message, I checked. I got lucky and found my port first try :D

This has happened to me several times, having the base changed without a signal. Now every patrol when I am out of torpedoes or have the 'Good work, RTB' message, the first thing I do is check for my home port before setting a course. :)

Seems it always happens with the Australian ports.

Did it happen around March-April 1943, by any chance?

PacificWolf: I never got such a message; I sent out regular status reports and the only thing I got back were the standard reports of positions of enemy convoys and task forces.

Lucky you...what port did you try? I'll follow your example.:DL

I never get the 'RTB' message, even if I sent out a status report saying I've expended all my torpedoes.

Expended all my torpedoes before I even got to my patrol sector...sank four ships (including a Large Modern Tanker) for just under 34,000 tons. Patrolled and then headed for home. Went to Pearl Harbor...nothing. Headed to Midway...nothing. Decided to skip Brisbane, as I already had a feeling as to what that port would say, so I headed S of Australia and stopped at Fremantle...BINGO! Was FINALLY able to dock! Departed Brisbane on 21 March 1943, docked at Fremantle 18 May 1943. Handed out quite a few medals, and commissioned six Master Chiefs as Ensigns. Every officer I started the war (began my career 12/09/41) with are now Lieutenants, and all my enlisted men are Chief Petty Officer or higher (promoted the last three PO1s upon docking at Fremantle).

Thus far, I've not received the message indicating I can be reassigned as a training officer, and even when I do receive it, I'm gonna decline it...I started this war as a submarine skipper, and I'll end it as a submarine skipper!

ijnfleetadmiral,

Glad you got it sorted. What mods do you use? Maybe there is a date mistake in the campaign files somewhere.

Just had that in an S-boat the other day. I went to dock in Fremantle, my last base and found I could only refit. Didn't see a base change in the messages, but I zoomed out and sure enough, Brisbane was my new home port.

Just start carrer most early in the war in asiatic fleet, youre "base" is Manilla, after 20 or 30 minutes playing you should recieve "Pac News" or "Operator News" not sure exacly how the second name is.

Maybe you already know this, but since you mentioned it, I suspected that you didn't. When your torpedo slots are filled, just drag the torps into the tubes and hit the "Refit" button again, and you'll be replete.;)

WernherVonTrapp is right, it will give you a full boat including tubes. If you like the immersion factor that is a way to do it. It you are a casual player there is a quicker 'trick'. After you refit, hit the button for auto reload to turn it off, then again to turn it on and they will start reloading the tubes, and refit again.
You do not have to wait for the tubes to be loaded, the game will reserve the torpedoes it needs to fill the tubes.
So refit, auto load off, auto load on, refit again to get a full load.

Another little 'trick/cheat', when you are returning to port. A refit will put the same torps you had on the boat (almost always). So if you bought a boatload of new torpedoes and don't want ot have to unload the 'default' and buy the others, just refit before you dock.

Believe it or not, I'm playing a stock game for SH4. Wouldn't mind at least having a mod showing the correct medals, though. Found one, but it looked like it went with another mod.
