I've been playing sims for years, usually WW1 and WW2 air simulators.

About submarine ones, I mostly play SHII, also a bit of SoF and I'm currently in progress of finishing the campaign that I started several years ago (5 or 6). I recently discovered a savegame of it...so I'm now again on deck.

Perhaps when I finish the campaigns I'll switch to more modern ones...but before that I must polish my style (probably more suited to torpedo boats than to subs:rotfl2:) and learn better manoeouvres.

Also, I like a lot Napoleon Total War's naval combats, but there aren't subs there, just powder, sails and swords:arrgh!:

PS: Also, since I started playing, I've learnt German, at least the minimum to understand the crew. Hearing the order in OV and knowing what they are saying has been a great improvement in gameplay.

Having played SH 3 years ago (and of course with some mods, latest was GWX which is....just great :rock: ) I left the scene due to job, kids and other stuff and other cool sims - yes there are a few: e.g. IL-2, Total War :cool:. Then wasted some times on Settlers and Anno, which are quite ok and finally did a couple of role play games like Gothic, Spellforce and such. Still to come are The Witcher and Dragon Age - it's a pity having so less time :cry:. Only loose clinged to SH at that time I managed to get nice priced Coll.Ed's of SH4+5 and this month interrupted normal life by eventually installing SH 5 :yep: after hearing of Ubisoft's loosening bonds on gameplay constraints. What shall I say, I am addicted again and try to enhance immersion by following topics at subsim and trying mods :yeah:.
First of all, since I am not a modder due to restricted abilities, I thank you modders and community to do such a great job and will try to produce some input or at least to pester someone with any questions I may have ;).

Ahoy, community!

I played the original Silent Hunter and, over the years, toyed with a lot of simulators of all kinds. I spent a looong time with Lineage II and Eve Online but stopped playing everything to focus on academic pursuits. I now have time for a little foray into gaming again and spent yesterday looking around for something different.

I have to admit the 'unfinished' nature of this game was a major problem in my thinking...until I spent a few hours reading the SHV forums. What an amazing community?! Never seen anything like such dedication and - let's be honest - pure love for the game poured into making it work to the extent where you can all enjoy it as it should be enjoyed.

You guys sold it for me and I'm just waiting for it to download so I can install and make a start. So...hello all and see you on the wet side!

My name is Casey and I have recently relapsed into my SHIII addiction :03:.

Apparently since I signed up all the way back in 2005 (1 desktop and 2 laptops ago) my account has been disabled. I am hoping this post gets me back in the game. I live in Ft. Worth, Tx and am 28 years old.

I absolutely adore this site because of the community aspect and level of involvement and think it is pretty much the Platonic ideal of a good fan site for a computer game. Thanks for the site and I look forward to sharing my observations and experiences with a great group of people.

I've been coming to this website and playing silent hunter for a while now and need to say hi and thank all that have been apart of it. Played many video games growing up and the only one I can really say that I play now when I have time is the SH series. Guess i don't post enough , It would only be to slather good tidings on all those responsible for what this site has done for my game . I bought sh5 when released , paid the premium , watched the uproar , and played my game .. It was pretty darn good . I had never modded anything before ,, Had to learn .. was very hard because i am not very smart , But i did it , Mod soup went bad at some point and i got disinterested... put the whole thing down , was well over a year ago ,Anyways ,, Im rather bipolar at times and i have dusted the thing off and loaded it back up again and am having a huge blast .. Have been playing with 5 mods from sobers beginner list , Oh2 , FX, but its not enough ,, ITS NEVER ENOUGH !!! Ive decided to download the whole sobers mega mod thing.. ran into my limit of downloads and here i am hoping this will Open up a bit of space to download the rest .. Guys ,, I don't know why you do what you do as modders besides just love of the game .. But I'm Very pleased that you do it . Forgive my wall of text . I dont guess its going to let me download anymore .. Any chance i can be made a captain ?

At the risk of getting accused of being biased I'd try SH3 but they're all cheap now so you may want to consider purchasing SH3, 4 and 5.

Just offering a quick hello to the community.

I am a 34 year old from Australia. I am a mature age university student studying history and political science, and my submarine knowledge comes largely through books and games. Unfortunately I was unable to join the Australian Navy, so I missed out on the chance to experience these things first hand. My submarine game experience dates back to 688 Attack Sub on the Sega Genesis, and I have played a number of other sims over the years. I still find the Silent Hunter series to be my favourite, and I have just joined the community in order to find out more about my latest purchase, SH4.

Look forward to crossing paths with everyone on the forums.
