After drilling for two decades through more than two miles of antarctic ice, Russian scientists are on the verge of entering a vast, dark lake that hasn***8217;t been touched by light for more than 20***8201;million years.

Just thought this was pretty cool :)

I wonder what they'll find. Hopefully not some horrible virus...

I don't think if anything does come out of that lake it will be that big, but it could be far more deadly.

Agreed, probably some form of toxic gas if anything. Although it would be cool to see if there are any animals which have adapted differently to live in the lake.

Could be deadly extra terrestrial bacteria from early meteor strikes millions of years ago and entombed in polar ice. Until now :o

Go to MOPP level 4!

Go to MOPP level 4!It wouldn't even be necessary to be extraterrestial. Readily contagious bacteria or virus against which humans don't have natural defence would be enough. In today's globalized world where people travel around the globe we could have pandemia within weeks. :o

...or then its just big pond of hydrogen-dioxide and other elements.

There's actually a group of doomsdayers saying the lake is under pressure and will shoot out and mess up the climate and stuff, as if there weren't already enough things in 2012 that could end the world...
