Hi.H
During the war, I was a Naval messemger on the Gimsby Naval Base HMS Beaver. (UK) One day I had to take a message to a submarine that was in the roads waiting to do a test dive after repairs. The message was a telegram telling the captain his wife had presented him with a baby! He was so tickled, he got permission for me to go with them. We left the river and submerged with accomanying gurgles and bubbling. The was a big hatch above my head about 3' wide and 9' long and I asked him what it was for and he told me it was for loading torpedoes. He told me an airman had a trip and asked when to know not to open the hatch, I told him we take the number of times we go down and the number of times we come up. Take one from the other and if there is one over, we don't open the hatch!!!!!
