I found this generator online and wanted to share it with you guys. For the people who get stuck finding a name for their Captain.

Nice find :yeah:
Back in SH3 I liked the way SH3Commander randomized the captain names.
I'm using my latest name from SH3 in SH5 now.
Kaleun Robert Menge :salute:

I still use Commander to generate names for my SH4 u-boat kaleuns, and for when I still play Aces Of The Deep.
This looks good though.

:hmmm: Didn't think of that option... Thanks, Steve :salute:

I never have been able to stop chuckling at how SH5 defaults a new commander's name to "Oscar Entwickler" ("Entwickler" meaning "developer"), but that's just one of the quirks of being a polyglot.
Thanks for sharing the link, though. It sure beats just picking a random name from the online telephone directory for Dusseldorf :)

I was trying it last night and it doesn't seem to randomize that much. It seems to be the same ones over and over. Maybe if I close out browser and reopen web page it will refresh it some how. I still like SH3Commanders name generator.

Ok, I figured it out. Just hit web page refresh button and it will generate the names for you. Why couldn't I think of it last night, lol. I guess I was up very late and tired.
Hope you guys enjoy!

That's one I didn't know. In the U-boat add-on for SH4 the default name was a tribute to Dowly's funny creation: Bernard von Unfal.

Those were the days, eh? Oh, and SH3... The memories. Good to be back here after a few years of absence, Sailor Steve, and good to see you're still around. This community is still everything that had me coming back again and again for months upon months.

Thanks! Glad to BE back! I had my eyes on this latest install of the Silent Hunter series for a long time, but life got in the way (I KNOW how much I love this genre, it's like crack! :03: ) and the bad reviews plus the memories of the fights back with SH3 and how that baby didn't exactly launch right either didn't help.
On the other hand, my memories of how this community turned SH3 into everything it should have been and then some ALSO made me know that, one day, I'd be sucked right back in and enjoying every second of it :DL
That moment has arrived, and I couldn't be happier. Firing up all of the sound files that I spent ages compiling back then (it seems they've survived, at least some of them, in various music mods out there and, by the way, I still have all of that period music, God knows how many GBs of it, in case anybody is interested), brushing off my dusty Kaleun's hat and ready to set out for the open sea again
Life is good.

As you wish. It's all period music, as in "stuff a real Kaleun might have or that might be on the radio". Took me a while to gather it and get it turned into .ogg files and yes, even though copyright issues were unlikely with music about 70 years old, I put a huge arse disclaimer up encouraging anybody who had a copyright on it to let me know so I could kill it immediately. I never got a word from anybody, so I'm assuming it's OK.
Anybody know a good place to upload stuff these days, because I don't have the server space to do so myself.

Look at any post by Jimbuna, and check his sig links. He has literally hundreds of songs just waiting for you.
Also look here:

Look for anything that starts SH3 Oggvorbis. They work in the gramaphone from any version of SH.

Subsim Downloads?

That's certainly an option. And I think that was one of the options back then, 8 years or so ago, which we were talking about. The thing was I didn't want to get this community in trouble if there were some copyright issues, even though I think it unlikely given the age of the songs and the fact that I'd immediately delete any songs mentioned in a challenge. Didn't ever get one, by the way.
If it's OK with SubSim and Uncle Neal, I'd be more than happy to upload them. It's the least I can do to pay something back.
I don't know if I have anything that Jimbuna hasn't already got up there, I'm damn impressed now that I've taken a look at it!, but I'm all about the sharing.

If it's original period recordings I don't think there's a problem. They've been up there before. And, like you, if there was one hint of a complaint I would take them down right away.

To find Jimbuna's posts I would have to go back to SH3 forums right?
Have not seen him active here at SH5.
Will check it out

Great. I like the music from 40's to 70's. Are they all in german or are there any songs in english too?

Then you haven't looked very hard. He has one or more posts on almost every page of the 'SH5 Players, Introduce Yourselves' thread. Three on the current page so far.

Well haven't exactly been looking for him so :DL , but I stand corrected :salute:
Nice to see the old fellas from SH3 moving to / trying out SH5
edit: detecting threat hijacking. Sorry. backing off now...

I'll get started on it, then.
If I have even a single song that Jimbuna hasn't already uploaded, it will be all worth it. Dang, how things have changed over the last few years, and only for the better and it was already pretty damn excellent! :yeah:
