I have an earlier version of SH III which has the Starforce included. I went through the whole process of removing the SF, reinstalling and everythign else outlined to make the game run without the disc. I click onto the new icon and the game starts, the intro is showing and then the game is loading. When the bar is almost completely across the bottom screen, it stops and I get a message saying the game unexpectantly stopped working. I also noticed that when the game begins, it does not completely fill the screen. About an inch or more is absent on the right side. My resolution is set at 1440 x 900. Could that be the problem? Thanks in advance for your help. I have a 19 inch screen.

I have no idea what to tell you. I bought a newer version of SH3 as soon as it was available. Currently they are very very cheap on Amazon, and if you use the link at the bottom of the page Subsim gets a small cut as well.
I have very few problems with the version I'm using.

Do you mean the main loading screen, the one before you get to the main menu? Or the loading screen when a mission or career is loading?
I had a similar issue with the career-loading-screen. In my case I had forgotten to apply the 4GB patch for 64bit machines which caused a problem with the Merchant Fleet Mod I have installed.

Yes, I get the error message before the menu screen appears. I sure hope this problem can be remedied by someone.

I just reread your post, and I notice you use the exact resolution I do, so no, that shouldn't be the problem.

I hope someone else has some suggestions. I just tried it again and same thing happens. What makes me wonder about the resolution is when it stops loading and shows an error message, only about 3/4 of the screen is taken up by the game, the other 1/4 is of the desktop as I can see my icons. Obviously, I am at a loss as to what to do...

Try changing your res until you get it to work. Then have it run in windowed mode so it can run at its desired res.

If you're using resolution fix you will get a graphical problem (not filling the whole screen) on this resolution. However this should not be stoping your game from working. I use 1440 x 900 on very same size monitor without resolution fix. The graphics is stretched a little bit but I already got used to that. If your monitor has a switch mode to standard aspect ratio 5:4 you can use it as well. The graphics will be not stretched this way, but the graphics woun't fill the whole screen too..

I am just simply frustrated. Nothing is helping. I thought maybe I did something wrong when following the instructions on removing StarForce and running the game without the disc, so I deleted everything and then did it all over again: installing, uninstalling, patching, copying and the same thing. Then I tried chaning the resolution(s) all the way down to 800 x 600 and still it will not work, citing an error message after the into, but before the main menu. I thought about buying the later version without the Starforce, but if I removed all of that and it says no drivers are found to remove and still not work, what good would that be? I might be wasting my $$, which I have little of. I would LOVE to play this game, but I am a rookie at this, so I need an eay game to start with. How much harder is SH 4? Naval Academy? If it is really to hard for a beginner, it would not be for me. Any more ideas of suggerstions, please?

SH4 isn't much different, it just looks better. :sunny:

So, do you think it would be alright for a beginner?

Absolutely. Well, as alright as SH3 is for a beginner. If you understand SH3, SH4 is pretty much the same. SH5, on the other hand...

I don't understand SHIII since I have not be able to play it. My bad...

First off.
StarForce will NOT be installed if you NEVER RUN the Game before
adding the Reloaded fix.
IF you did run it before adding the Reloaded fix?
MAYBE the removal tool will work.
I have had it NOT work properly.
:nope:
At a few bucks for a newer version?
How much money is your time worth?
I can earn over $20 per hour at the right time.
Several hours of messing with SH3 installs can cost me most of my hair!
:damn:

I am not worried about the newer version (sh4). I am only concerned if it would be too difficult for me as a beginner. I will befinately buy it if you pros think us newbies can do it. Does it have a Naval Academy?

Yes it does. If you use OM then there is a very nice academy for u-boats as well.

Sorry, I forgot, but I have just ONE more question: is the operating manual a physical book(let) or just on the disc? Having a physical manual would allow me to take it with me and study it when time permits.

There is no manual for SH4. there is a joke on the disc labeled "Manual", but it's pretty much useless. Some supermods come with their own PDF manuals, but OM isn't one of them. This site is pretty much your best and only manual.

Again, thanks. I will be buying the game in about a week, so be expecting some questions!

I did everything that was spelled out to get this game to run without a disc and nothing but problems as you know. I then read on a Ubisoft form to install it on the C drive and not the C:/program files folder. I deleted the version that was on my computer and did eveything, plus the above and now the game works! I am so happy! Thanks everyone for trying to help me and I know I will be posting more questions as I try and make it through Naval Academy. Again, thanks.
