U boat Documentaries & Movies

Hi

I couldn't find a thread that groups the must-see uboot documentaries and movies... Wouldn't it be nice to have these grouped in one thread ?

since i'm quite new to Silent Hunter i'd like to get some information of the Naval War in WWII... any suggestions? (i saw Das Boot and some other sub movies, but no documentary yet)

The "go to" documentary would be the three parter, "U-Boat War" I guess.

The best one I found is called U-boat War, there are 3 part episodes and are like an hour each.

In episode order are:

U-Boat War - Sea Wolves
U-Boat War - Attack America
U-Boat War - Iron Coffins

I believe you can find them on torrent for download. They are really good documentaries on the U-Boats and have a lot of stock footage.

Other good ones are:

The World at War - Wolf Pack

U-Boat War - The Story of the German Navy in World War Two

Yeah I just saw that there, that is my favorite. You should watch the other ones, I saw them on there to. U-boat War - Attack America is a good one. Before I watched that I didn't realize the U-boats were in the Gulf of Mexico a lot.

"Atlantic..something" ... it was a good program, they used to show it on all the history type channels. When I was a kid I used to watch it on Sat or Sunday afternoons.

Good link, I will have to watch those later. I don't remember that show, but you are right the opening sequence does make you sea sick, lol. A lot of good stock footage.

Got to watch them last night. I watched first episode and third one, I skipped the second one. I just wanted to watch the U-boat war. These are really good documentaries. They are aged, but brings the viewer into that time. Thanks for the link.

There are a lot of good suggestions here, but I want to suggest some flicks about the Submarine history after the second world war.

I recently saw a documentary called "azorius" about the Glomar Explorer and the raising of the K-129.
I am awed at the sheer scale of that project, and how revolutoinary the technologies used were.

And also the Hist Ch documentary "blind man's bluff" based on the book of the same name.
This highlights the underwater spy operations done by the americans, during the cold war. How they started spying on the Russians using WW2 era diesel subs, and follows the development both in tactics and technology.
