Just -5 degrees celsius here in Jyväskylä, Finland this year. Yesterday was "cold" day with -12 C.
Last year I waited bus in -33 degrees celsius (in morning -25 to -30 during day) so weather is somewhat hot at the moment.

Last year I started shipping snow after mid-Novembre, and there was plenty until February.
This year - not one snowflake. Yesterday I was working on the balcony - in a T-Shirt. Oh, and the trees in the garden are blossoming currently.
Its much too warm over here. So far we have had only two nights below zero this "winter" - -1°C, that is. A joke. It used to drop to around -10 - -18 in past decades. This month, it hardly drops below +5°.
Exceptions from the rule are exceptions. In general, by trend winters become warmer over here.
Plenty of mosquitos this year, I fear. No frost that killed their larvas.

In March 2006 I was in Nerja, Spain. I reported weather to my friend who was at the time in army. Message was about this "Hello from Spain! Its 20 degrees in shadow. Whats weather there?". Response: "In forest. Minus 20 degrees, wet and cold." :D
It's only at the freezing point (0C/32F) outside, but it's bloody cold in my room :stare:
Should be down into chillier temperatures by weekend.
I still remember my early morning commutes in Ottawa, where at least for two weeks each year I'd be cursing while waiting for my bus in about -30 weather (that's both C and F) :haha:
Really am not a big fan of the cold, though I guess you can learn to live with it.
It's only at the freezing point (0C/32F) outside, but it's bloody cold in my room :stare:
My whole apartment is bloody cold. The insulation on the windows and the
balcony door is kinda crap. Tried to change it to new one last summer, but that
doesn't seem to work too well.
Good thing I have my PC on so much, works wonders warming the place up. :haha:

The Red Capital of Finland has recently jumped from -10 to minus -20. Found out the hard way this morning when walking with the doggie.
But the funny thing about cold is that it looks worse on paper than in reality. When it goes from 0 to -5, you will notice it. When it goes from -5 to -10, again you will notice it. But after -10, it doesn't matter too much if it's -15, -20 or -30. It's just cold.
Also, as it gets colder, the climate also becomes more dry. I actually prefer dry freeze of the -30 and -40 that we have had in here in the last two winters over the wet shivering cold of 0 degrees. Especially if there is no wind.

Calling our temperatures "siberian cold" should just illustrate how full of crap the press here is - slow news, nothing else happens other than our corrupt president.
I live in the very West of Germany, it's mostly mild and wet. The wetness is what makes "our" cold here so pesky. Like Hottentot mentioned, the dry cold the people up North have, is much easier to bear.
We have an arid period going on since 2 months, today we had -2°C and sunshine - I was good in a sweater outside during my smoke breaks - it was pleasant.
(Excuse me dear Finns and Canadians: I know at -2° shorts and a t-shirt are more appropriate in your countries :O:)

Cold isn't our problem here in Reno. It's the heat. We are 10° above normal here for almost 3 months. Only had two storms so far this season, one in mid November and the other in mid January. Both came in from the South West.
When we get this kind of storm it means lots of wind, 60 MPH with gust up to 80. To the South of Reno there are narrow canyons and 80 MPH winds are common there. Both storms started wild fires. The winds took the fires right up those canyons. 4,000 acres and 31 homes lost in the first and 3,200 acres and 29 homes lost in just 6 hours in the second. Heroic efforts by the fire departments saved maybe a hundred or more homes in the second. Fireplaces ashes started this one, guy just dumped hot ashes in the back yard weeds.
Virgina Peak about 15 miles from my house reported a gust of 140 MPH.
That's cat 3 or 4 hurricane speeds.
Wild fires at this time of the year are unheard of.
We have had the driest Nov. and Dec. in a hundred years. Zero precipitation in Dec. It's hard to get lower than that.

Hitting -15c later this week
