In a German essay about parallels between the financial disaster in Germany 1922 and the present crisis, I read in a small note that autumn last year Germany has just payed back the last and final rate (200 million Euros) for war reparations that were imposed on it after WW-One.

Almost a hundred years. :o

Thats because there was a long break in payments and then an agreement which put off any interest repayments for nearly 50 years.
Someone got a bargain.
