While floating around at 90m today i was wondering if there are any whale or dolphine sounds in SH3? I just returned to playing after a year or so leave and thought i had read before that it is possible to hear whales in the deeps. Is this true or am i listening for nothing?
Thanx for any replys

The sounds are like your stomach growling after having Mexican food and too many beers.

If you listen carefully on the hydrophone yourself you may be lucky and hear a shrimp fart :03:

And if Jimbuna has had a curry recently, you may hear the noise up to 200 miles away. :)

I saw my first dolphin while putting into the supply ship just north of Gibraltar, just a couple of days ago. Pretty cool!

If you put on a pair of headphones you should find that you can hear better than your hydrophone guy.

Could be wrong, but I think part of the problem is that they don't report a sonar contact until they can identify whether it's a warship or merchant. Often times it seem like they will report "No Contact" even though you may hear a thundering herd when using the hydrophone manually. I ran into this recently while trying to use updates from the operator to track an oncoming convoy that was making a course change.
Either way it's a good idea to do a quick 360 sweep yourself before trusting your sonar man. Also 2nd the recommendation for using headphones - just remember to turn the volume back down before issuing orders!

Cool. I wear a headset to enjoy the hydrophone and other better. I use the speaker when I am off cooking or something playing in real time.
Question, is there a way to shut up the incomming messages voices and transmission sounds? I rather read them when I wish and have a porter deliver them by hand ... lol.

They don't have damage models...you'll simply pass through them.
