Without getting into a fight about tmo is better than RFL etc.
What super mod does the community recommend? Or should I have multiple installs and use both? Also The RSRD campaign.....does/should that get its own install or does that go with the super mods?

And finally what order do i install mods?

Sorry. "The Community" is made up of thousands of players, hundreds of whom post here. Some prefer TMO, some like RFB, still others will recommend GFO or FOTRS, most will tell you you need RSRDC and a handful still play the stock game.

What you will get is posts from different people who will tell you they prefer one or the other, and why. Some will disagree about one point or another, and the fight you say you don't want may start because you asked the question.

They are all good, but for different reasons. You would probably be better served to look up threads on the different mods. Better still, download MultiSH4 and try them all yourself.

Personally, I run RFB coupled with RSRDC. My reason? It's what suits my style of play.

TMO and RFB combined with RSRDC (I only tried those so far) improve the game significantly and somehow like GWX. But none improved the graphics in the way GWX did and added as many other sea and air units.

I'm running the same setup as Steve. Basicly in a nutshell, RFB has always been geared towards realism. This dose not always equate to an impossibly hard experience though. Take for example Japanese Destroyer counter attacks. In reality, especially early on, Japanese ASW was not effective for numerous reasons. The result is usually a brief, inaccurate counter attack. Some view this as non-challenging. Mabey so, but that's the way it was. Later on, it's a different story. TMO is geared towards a more challenging experience. Those Destroyer encounters are much more challenging, mabey more than they really were in real life. Again, some people prefer this style of play. Nothing wrong with that. Both mods offer great environmental graphics and upgraded sounds. It's really up to you.

RSRD is a campaign mod which has realistic traffic and battles. There is a version for either RFB and TMO. Some find this too challenging in the sense that traffic has been reduced to realistic numbers and areas. No more uber tonnage, as it was in reality. You may go days without a contact, again like reality.

To get a feel for each mod, take the time to read their respective threads. This will explain what each offers. The rest is up to you.

RFB is more advance graphically. I like it because it's the only version in which Midway actually looks like the real Midway. RFB's AI and functionality are geared more toward making ships act as they really did.

TMO is geared more toward making the player himself play more realistically. RFB may be more accurate in the way it works, but it also takes away the mystery. All you have to do is look in the history books to know what RFB will do. TMO takes that to a different level by making things more difficult, the idea being that you once again don't know what they are capable of or what they're going to do. This may be less accurate for them but it makes you play more like a real captain.

I am playing GFO at the moment, but I intend to switch over to TMO and RFB later to see what suits me best. I am the realist-kind-a-guy, so I might end up with RFB+RSRD in the end. Only thing I know for sure is that stock doesn't fulfill your needs, if you are really into sub simulators.

Really :06: I honestly have no idea what RFB looks like graphically.

Sorry, you're right. I was thinking of the work done on the ports, which is where my head has always lived. Like I said...Midway.

I have TMO, RFB, and FOTRS. TMO is my favorite as it fits the way I like to play the game. And it's very flexible in that if I have to set it aside for any length of time, I can come back to it, ease up on the difficulty, and get back into it again.
