What happened to them was vindictive and not only a stain on their honour but on the honour of IrelandSounds pretty harsh to me, but then so do many things others view as legitimate.
I know there's that whole we hate the english thing, but I wonder how much solidarity germany would have shown ireland had britain been occupied?

there is a campaign underway to have the Irish Government officially erase the stain on their names. seems like the only stain is on ireland for having such a 'list' in the first place.

In one context Zombies were WW2 Canadian Army draftee's who refused overseas service but that usage obviously does not apply here.

I don't have any dogs in this hunt but a deserter is a deserter, even in a "good" cause so some sort of official sanction from the Government of Eire does not seem unreasonable.
