Looks very much like that you would find on a Piper Cub. Not a J-3 with the Continental engine, but a later version where a wooden prop wouldn't work as well..
it's very much a vintage piece and I'm trying to think of any other aircraft that could have used a fixed-pitch aluminum prop. Definitely a smaller plane, most likely general aviation.
As I said, there really isn't much to go on but I'd start looking down the Piper stable, pre...1975* and see what turns up.
*Truly a ballpark guess, though.
Your friend took excellent pictures though, I'd assume it was much shinier back in the day, judging by the anti-glare coating on the back of the prop.
