Checked my email today and had one that appears to be from Direct2Drive letting me know that they are becoming part of Gamefly and migrating all account information to Gamefly and that I should be able to get the same service after the transition, until then I can continue to use my account with D2D the same way I have always done.

But I don't have an account with D2D, I've never had an account with Gamefly, and I have no idea why I'm getting this email or how they got my email address.

At first I thought it had something to do with setting up a Steam account but they appear to be competitors and the email D2D used is my primary "business and friends" only account, not the one I used to set up Steam. They obviously got that email from somewhere, but they didn't get it from me. Is Netflix affiliated with D2D or Gamefly?

I can't remember the last time I got spam at this email addy, so it's not like places I do business with online are in the habit of selling it or passing it on. :hmmm:

Got the email too, so most likely not spam.

No idea why you'd get it if you don't have an account there, tho. :hmmm:

Yeah, I've never bought or rented anything from either place, I've never even been to their websites. I have a little booklet with acct info for every online account I've ever had and neither is in it.

I thought maybe Gamefly was associated with Netflix somehow, and it was mass mailing telling everybody about the "merger." But it's from D2D and directed at their customers and I'm not one. It's very odd. I mean, it didn't look like a phishing attempt, it looks completely legit, I just wish I knew why I was getting it, particularly if someone who has my email for a legitimate (to me) reason is shopping it around.

Do they do sales on disc of games at all? I don't suppose they would've sold me something through Amazon somehow, it's not like I buy a lot of games from anywhere, much less online. The only digital copies I've bought have been Silent Hunter games and those were through the Ubi store.

I recieved on too, actually more than one. There are so many game connections I've come into contact with that I didn't think twice about it.

If it had been sent to a secondary email address I wouldn't have thought about it either, but my primary addy is the only I use that has my full name "attached" to it. I only use it with people I know and trust, or for online business where the transactions involved would provide that information (and much more) anyway. So it's weird to get an email at that address from some place where I've never done business and don't have an account. I'd just be happier if I knew of a legitimate connection between them and some place where I actually would've used that address.

Have you bought any games digitally from Ubisoft between 2005-2009? I believe their online store used to actually be run via the D2D servers (it is not anymore). So D2D may have still kept your Ubi store account details.

I suspect that's why I got two emails as well (because I was registered with D2D itself and had that Ubi account too).

Yeah, I bought SH3 in 2009 before I joined here. And that was from the old Ubi store, because I remember them notifying me sometime after that when they redid everything - I got an email from Ubi with a discount code to use if I bought something either before or after they switched over, can't remember which. But that's how I ended up with SH4. :D

That's probably the connection I was looking for, thanks. :salute:

Oh, good. She didn't figure out that I submitted her name to everybody I could think of.

Wait. Did I say that out loud? :shifty:

I got the email too, but I do have a D2D account for Black Shark. :D

I got the e-mail, too. I don't remember ever having anything to do with D2D. The only thing I could think of was that I bought the U-Boat Missions addon for SH4 back in the day. That was the only time I ever bought anything digitally.
