Hello my friends!

I have been away for awhile, I took a break from the game due to having to small of a monitor and getting tired of fighting with the game interface at 1024x768, I now have a better monitor (1280x1024 is much better).

Anyhoo, on to the question!

So I have combed all the tutorials and lessons but I still cannot figure out one simple thing.

When you get into position to launch a fish, you do all that is needed to get into a proper position to catch the merchant (or warship) at a nice juicy 90 degree angle.

Next you determine target speed (and bearing if needed) and lock that into the TDC.

Now if I wanna fire a torp using the "fast 90" method, how do I determine how far ahead to place the periscope wire (and the TDC for that matter) to get the best shot as the ship "crosses the wire"?

I just can't seem to understand the basic formula for that.

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

you just place your periscope at 000°. Then enter unlock the TDC for manual entries. Enter the speed and an AOB of 90°, send both to TDC and lock the TDC again.
Now just align the Gyro angle to 000° and you got your periscope pointing to the point where the torp will hit. Just let the scope on 000 Gyroangle and wait til the ship passes your crosshair and 'LOS'

Thanks so much!

gonna give that a try as soon as I can.

Dunno if you'll find this table any use.
It's the firing angles for a true fast 90 attack.

Set your TDC for a 90 degree bow shot
note the speed of your victim and the chosen torpedo
fire when the ship reaches the angle stated in the table
range is not important

I use the Dick O'Kane method, which is:
You are at a 90' angle, stopped, at,for me, 1.000 yds. If speed of target is up 10knots then I turn my periscope (if coming from stbd) to the 10' mark and my angle on the bow to 90'+10' ie move it to the left. If from portside just reverse this. your periscope to 350' and angle to 90'- 10'
If spd is over 10 knts then make all 15' instead.
fire when target's area you want to hit. is passing your periscope centreline.
