Anyone know off hand whether or not the German torpedoes were capable of making a turn computed by the TDC, or were they simply a straight shot?!
I ask because as I use the Auto-Targeting (Temporarily) I set up a shot last night and even though I hit the ship, I wondered if I could have made the shot running a parallel course as I have been able to do in SH4.
If the torpedoes are capable of making the turn, I am wondering if/how the (little yellow line on the TAI map will show it.
Anyway, this game is great!! Love all the interaction, the mods are nothing less than brilliant , (I can't say enough about the mods).
I digress, Torpedoes , Thanks in advance. Rock n Roll...

Without question, yes, the German torpedoes could be set to turn at any angle up to 90 degrees.

See page 19.

What I find fascinating is that, according to this account at least, the TDC was in the conning tower, close to the attack periscope.

As for the angle being shown, I know it is always on in SH3. I haven't been able to play SH5 enough to look around for it.

Yes but if I'm not mistaken, in at least one version of the US fleet boats, (Salmon, Dolphin?) the TDC was in the tower as well as the attack scope right?
When I play SH4, (I'm in a Salmon right now) the TDC is right there nect to the Scope in the Tower. Yeah, it seems then ,that the German, English and US TDC's were all remarkably similar. This goes to show that during peacetime everyone was sharing... or stealing...
I'm going to have to do some real practicing as this firing mechanism in SH5 is quite differant on the outside than 3 & 4:hmmm:. I like to fire from a parallel course sometimes as it allows for a possible stern and bow shot to hit squarely in the side of the enemy.

PS; This is a great Report. Always love to read the real McCoy:03:

True, but in US subs everything was done from the conning tower, at least as far as the attack was concerned, and SH4 has it set up that way. SH3, and SH4 U-boats, has the TDC in the control room. Without looking at pictures I'm not sure what the German situation was.

Oh Yes, that's right, in the U-Boats in 3, absolutely, there is a TDC near the Nav table.
I also pictured the TDC in the tower as well but that might have just been for the game. Yes, now I'm tryin' to remember the movie as well. I just watched most of my old sub flicks last weekend, and they show the US subs with the conning tower version, ('cept the S-Boats). I can't even recall Das Boot showing a TDC...
Anyway. I'm still reading that cool report you put up here, it's quite detailed.
Anyway, more to come...
