Personally speaking I'm not too convinced how serious/sincere the Taliban are:
The Pakistan Taliban is in peace talks with the country's government, the group's deputy commander has said.
Maulvi Faqir Mohammad said the focus was on the Bajaur tribal area bordering Afghanistan, and that if successful, talks could be extended to other areas.
He said 145 Taliban prisoners had been freed as a goodwill gesture and the authorities wanted a ceasefire.
It is the first time a top Taliban commander has confirmed negotiations.

Commie talk for: Trust but verify :yep:
Matters such as these are always a balance between verifiability and irreversibility. It is never an easy road to walk. :yep:

:har:
An enemy holding a monologue, talking to himself.
The Taliban effectively ARE Pakistan.
Prisoners taken or released, manouvers, movement - all just for the world's cameras.
But Western diplomats will love it. It confirms that there is progress being made. The the mission is producing results. Slowly, but surely.
They talk of an Afghan war all the time. The real Afghan war will not start before the Western troops have left. ;)

*mock arab accent*
We do anything to get USA the hell out of here, even if we show mock stability. Karzai, lacking a spine, who funnels all the US aid dollars to us wants to stay in power, and can only do so through us, and if the darned troops leave.
And Pakistan, missiles will stop, and can concentrate on nuking India, and whining over Kashmir. We will help, killing is fun, and our duty to our invisible spook in the sky.
