Hi Subsimmers,

A new version of the Enigma simulator is just uploaded to my website. This update incorporates several new features. Since the Mayas predict the end of the world in 2012, I have asked Santa Claus to deliver this litttle gizmo today in your sock, so that you can enjoy the sims before we go with a big bang next year :-) And the best of all, it's free!

What's new in this version? There's a major graphical revision with a front cover for each of the different Enigma models (Heer & Luftwaffe, Kriegsmarine M3 and Kriegsmarine M4). There are now two types of rotors (with letters or with numbers) and the plugboard is revised, with a different layouts for the various models. The plugboard layout order is also changeable. The individual plugs are now visible on top view. A new photo gallery is added, with new images that I shot from various Enigma machines. The new sound effects are recorded from a real enigma machine, there's a sound on/off option and the Auto Typing function is improved. Finally, the help file is re-written and expanded. I hope these are enough reasons to go see what Santa brought to you! Spread the word!

For download and additional information, please visit the Enigma sim webpage:

Any comments or feedback on the new sim version are most welcome!

With kind regards,

Really enjoy your work on these simulators...Many Thanks!

(Are you, perhaps, going to create an ENIGMA 'app' for smart phones?)...

Unfortunately, learning different coding languages, developing such sim, these things take time, and that's one thing I'm constantly short of

I presume you mean the TUNNY Lorenz SZ40 (all telex traffic - FISH - was called after a fish). Would have been a more apropriate designation for the submarine Enigma's.:hmmm:

I know that the Crypto Simulation Group (Frode Weierud & Co) is in the progress of making one. No idea when they are going to publish it.

By the way, the recently released TICOM reports (TICOM teams snatched German cryptologists and SIGINT pers in the final days of the war) revealed some fascinating information about Enigma and other crypto machines. See pdf:

Remember the famous FPS Return to Castle Wolfenstein (great game!)? Well, read TICOM's Volume 8, chapter VIII: a TICOM team captured scientists at Labarotorium Feuerstein !?! Reality, but as good as fiction!

See pdf page 39: http://www.nsa.gov/public_info/_files/european_axis_sigint/Volume_8_miscellaneous.pdf (http://www.nsa.gov/public_info/_files/european_axis_sigint/Volume_8_miscellaneous.pdf) :yeah:

Here's plenty more:

Yep Lorenz, the name slipped me.
