View Full Version : TDW New UI's/Trying to get them to work

I have a question about TDW's New UI mods. While I'm getting to know this game, I've been running Auto Targeting which I wanted to shut off after this patrol. Still I want to see the TDC and the new UI's ect. I'm loading them after the Dynamic Environment Mods but still, I don't see any change, just the plain stock UI which is not very friendly for controlling the boat in a hot situation.
I have all the folders separated and have been as careful as I can to read before loading. Do these mods (The new UI's) have to be loaded at the beginning of the patrol??

Perhaps you did the same mistake I did.
Make sure to enable the subfolder NewUIs_TDC_6_9_0_ByTheDarkWraith instead of the main folder with the same name. Enable with JSGME of course.

in \data\Applications there is an app named JSGME mod validator. Run that app and it will tell you whether you have your mods installed correctly or not.

i cant get any of the trevally auto scripts to work

the DbgView is saying "destroyed marks flagged as needed to be read", and there are five or six destroyed including automation, TDWmast heights, TDWsoan, TDWsound, TDWradiomessages, any ideas on what to do now.

Well, I tried again, If I load the file: NewUIs_TDC_6_9_0_ByTheDarkWraith, isn't this file set up to SH5 enhanced by defualt? I think I found the interface I was looking for, Should I be editing the Mod with this;[OptionsFileEditorViewer] ??? This interface should edit the entire Mod if I'm correct.
Aside from this, I will try again to see if I can get anything to change. I'm feelin' like I'm very close. The darn thing won't work for me yet.
I'm also using the same basic mod order listed by TDW and Sober which is working very well, the other Mods seem OK.

It is setup for SH5 Enhanced UI as default. It is best to use the OptionsFileEditorViewer app to edit the options file. It will ensure you don't introduce any typo's or errors in the file. The OptionsFileEditorViewer app will allow you to edit every option available in the mod.

Yeah, If I place the NewUIs_TDC_6_9_0_ByTheDarkWraith in JSGME, and enable it, there is no change. Am I missing a step? The only two folders in the mod are Data, Documentation and all the dll,files (Mast Heights, Mouse ect).
I'm going to try again after I get home with a new copy of the Mod.
I'm curious that the default setting is not even showing.
The only mods I am running in front of this is Several Dyn Env mods, Mighty fine crew, Speech Fix(German) FX, IRAI and that's it for now. Occasionally I have to pull a mod, replace and restart the game because the speech (depth to keel callouts ect) stop working but other than that, all the other mods seem to be working properly (I think).
Like I said, I'm going to get this to work if it puts me in the hospital, (I want that new hud):O:
Again, tell me exactly which file the validator goes. Also, The TDC folder has it's own MODS folder, I am not using that folder, but I am using the MODS folder that is already set up for JSGME (correct?).

This tells me that you've reinstalled the game at some point to a different path than originally installed. It could also explain why you're not seeing the mod work. The UIs mod reads your computer's registry to find the path to your Silent Hunter 5 folder. If the path it reads is different from where your actual Silent Hunter 5 folder is it will not work.

There's two ways to fix this: 1) edit your computer's registry (which is dangerous if you do it incorrectly) or 2) use the SHValidator app which will verify the path to your SH5 folder. If the registry is incorrect it will give the option to have the app automatically correct the registry.

Now why this happens on reinstalls: the SH5 installer fails to update the registry with the new path when you reinstall SH5.

Funny, I've only installed this once,However, Win7 (like mine) sometimes has Two program folder files, Which doesn't matter as I installed SH5 in C/Ubisoft/SH5, This is weird... and I wouldn't know what to type in the registry to correct it.
I'm going to keep trying the mod but now I'm interested as to why the game path is tweaked.
Everytime we find out something that might get this thing a little closer to working. Also, the other mods (again) seem to be working, I know the Env mods are anyway...

Well, the MOD Validator is telling me that the SH5 version is 1.2.0.0

Where is your Silent Hunter 5 folder located? Is it the path above (C:\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter 5\)? :hmmm:

If it is then you don't have JSGME installed correctly. Go to your SH5 folder and see if anything that starts with JSGME is in it. If so list which ones you found.

When installing JSGME dont put a shortcut on the desktop like it says too . Put the thing straight into your SH5 game folder . Then double click on the JSGME icon and it will create a folder and it will ask you if you want to rename this folder . Call it Dogfish40Mods . Dogfish40Mods is where your mods go .

TDW !! GOT IT! GOT IT! I went back and punted (reinstalled) JSGME, and the Mods folder. Bingo, I reistalled all the mods in the same order and as soon as the game came up I could see the Journel option. So...Now I have the SH5 enhanced hud and TDC. One thing. I tried to go into the editor and it's still blank. At the bottom of the editor is this;

You need to 'tell' the editor the paths to all those. Click on File and then set your SH5 path and menu.ini paths. Then you can open your options file with it :up:

You need to be using v1.0.25.0 of the options editor viewer also. That is available in v6.9.0 of the mod. It's available at bottom of post #1 of my UIs thread in the SH5 mods forum also.

Point it to \mods\uis mod\data\menu\menu.txt

Yeah, I've got the latest Viewer. This what I punched in and what is on the viewer notepad:

TDW, I can't thank you enough for sticking this out with me. The Viewer is up, and I'm trying some changes to an SH3 style hud, although for some reason, I think I may go back to the Enhanced SH5. I just want to fire some eels and have them hit.
It's strange, during the first patrol when you get awoken to sink some Polish vessels, I remember firing as I did in SH4 and 3 all of the eel's hit home. Then I go out on the second patrol and miss them all, on auto-targeting. Blast...
Anyhow, it's getting late and I'll be chiming in tomorrow.

LOL, No Sober, I just mentioned that tutorial 'cause it was so easy to sink those four ships. :O:
Then after the tutorial, I started loading up the mods, then my problems started. Mostly because I couldn't get the UI to work. I mentioned the tutorial Just because of the ease of sinking those four ships (actually six), then when I started the "Second" patrol, Or "Leaving Kiel for the first time" I couldn't hit a Gopher hole with a Baseball bat. So I wanted to see if changing out that UI would help my aim. Actually, I'm using your Mod list as a relative model.
Anyway, Problem mostly solved, I still have a couple of things about TDW's Mod to learn but it was all worth it.

Well, I have the interface working. All the menu items are there so I tried changing just a few things on a whim.
First I wanted to see if I could get the SH3 controls (Hud, TDC) to come up. So I changed the UI tab to SH3 and I changed a couple of things on the Hud tab.
When I went back into the game it was still the Enhanced SH5 Hud and TDC.
So... What did I miss?
This isn't a show stopper by any means but I sure do like those Seimans Dials I see in so many of the screenshots in various tutorials, (I'm trying to find those).
As far as the Mods go in general, all seems good. All of TDW's Apps are working and are very handy.
I can't wait to get home again as it was too late last night to play after finally getting everything sorted out.
I'll try getting the SH3 Hud top come up again. By the way, I did import one of the 'dials.dds files, I hope I did that right. Dropped it in the data/menu/Gui before I enabled UI. I may not want that exact Dials file but I used the German/Metric/Default.
Anyway, the UI didn't change to SH3, so I will try again when I get home.
Can't Wait!!

You need to disable the mod, run the options editor viewer app and make changes, then re-enable the mod. That way the changes will 'take' on next game load :up:

no i did that , i have even deleted the TDW UIs and re installed them, im on the verge of re installing the whole lot and starting from scratch, thanks for your input though.:dead:

Where did you point the app to the options file? In your SH5 folder (sh5\data\scripts\menu) or the mods folder (\mods\new uis\data\scripts\menu)? It makes a huge difference. You need to point it to the mods folder one. The the procedure I said above will work.

Well, everything's working just great. Now I can't decide weather to stay with the SH3 HUD or go back to the Enhanced SH5.
One thing I lost, 'Return to course'. I was just being stupid tonight and hit the Num Pad (.) key and got heading to view, then realised... no return to course key that I know of. Anyway, I kind of miss the SH5 Hud. Go Figure...
This mod along with the rest has made this the best money I've ever paid for any game.
