The most hilarious part I think was at the end where he goes "I'm Rick Perry and I endorse this message" endorsing the things you say. Interesting.
I'm pretty sure he destroyed any chance of ever being elected with that ad.
I'm Rilder and I endorse this post.

But.....but......I was assured by numerous people, many of whom are on this forum, that the 'new' Republican party wasn't interested in social conservatism; that they've 'changed'. They've 'learned their lesson'. This whole thing couldn't have been a sham, could it?
Could it?

Ever since I watched my first American campaign spot I am always astonished about the amount of cheesiness.
Btw: what's with this "This message was approved by..." stuff? Don't know when it started to come up. Is there a legal reason for it?
Why would someone say: "I approve my own message (that I said just seconds before)" like Perry did in this spot?

I was going to say "Make that 427,945 dislikes", but it's already up over 428,000, so I'll never catch up. On the other hand, the 'Likes' are up over 10,000, so there are more who like it as well. Of course the ratio is still about the same.

I'm not sure what planet Perry is on. I'm not sure what planet the writers for the parody are on either. What can we say about the governing body we fondly know as Congress?

Ah, thanks, I always had the impression that this was only required when the ad was brought "by the friends of...", to identify fake ads.
however:
"an unobscured, full-screen view of the candidate making the statement" could also allow that the candidate says ir while he turns the back to the audience, it's not said which side of the candidate has to be shown. :know:

I think that is appropriate when the ad was made by a supporting group, and doesn't feature the candidate himself. When he's the only person in the ad it is kind of silly.

Given that Bachmann echoed the very same type of message on the CBS Early Show on Tuesday morning, I'd say that it is very real. Check out what she says about countering Gingrich.

For me, it's not even that. In the mid-terms, these guys are all about telling us that 'it's the economy, stupid'. Now Cain has bitten the dust and there are two guys that are running pretty far ahead of the rest. Perry and Bachmann are losing on their version of 'it's the economy, stupid', so out come the Bibles. :haha:

What ever happened to "Separation of Church and State" in this Constitution that the Republicans are always thumping on when they aren't thumping their bibles ? I mean, there would be a melt down in the southern states if someone other than a religious person (or need I say... Christian, or Baptist, or some derivation of) got into office.

It's all bunk. Some people would love to pretend that they have to live in fear of saying Merry Christmas or that some jackbooted thugs will haul your kid off to a gulag if he wears a Christmas sweater to school. Its the victimhood complex in action. There's a subset of hardcore fundamentalist Christians who would love to force their opinions on everyone else and institute a form of theocracy in this country, but they cover it up by pretending they're the victims who are having someone else's beliefs imposed on them and that there's some made up "War on Christmas."
But then again, Jon Stewart did declare a war on Christmas: "But as long as our enemies view the words "Happy Holidays", not as a lazy man's way to avoid the time-sucking double-holiday salutation "I wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year", but rather as a subtextual "{expletive} and your Baby Jesus", THERE CAN BE NO PEACE!!
We will fight until we live in a world where free Americans everywhere seek not validation of their religious beliefs through Macy's signage. Where non-sectarian greetings are not seen as diminishing the most ubiquitous two-month holiday emergence since Caligula's birthday party. Until that day, I wish you and your family in this season a happy and heartfelt, end of the fiscal fourth quarter."

In the next town over from me, the township Christmas decorations got taken down a few years ago, because the Menorah was smaller than the Christmas tree.
By the way, Christmas is bullcrap too.

If you love Christ, then love him in your hearts and deeds. Not in monetary devotions to friends and kin. Only the devil profits from worshipping Hallmark holidays, over the ideals of a fair and just god.

I can't see why anyone would fault you. Snow is nice, Christmas lights are pretty, giving and receiving gifts is awesome, eating and drinking with friends and family is wonderful and a lot of big movies tend to hit the theaters around this time of year. I don't see why you'd have to be a believer in order to enjoy those things.

What scares the hell out of me is that people who are saying outright scarry, bigoted crap like this are still managing to get huge amounts of support and votes ! Seriously. One of the major stances of most of the Republicans running for President is that all Muslims are terrorists, training to be terrorists, or are slowly being brainwashed into becoming terrorists, and we should watch out for them and shut down their mosques and schools and centers wherever possible. :nope: It makes me ashamed to be an American sometimes.

Not on a national level. The commercial is a desperate ploy by Perry to stay alive in Iowa next month by appealing to ultra conservative rural voters. However, even if it works (which I doubt) the message will haunt him in more liberal states.
