View Full Version : Need help with a glitch...
First, hello Subsim. Haven't been around here in a while. Nice to see that people are still improving this game.
Anyway--I haven't played this game in around a year, but I wanted to try all of the new mods. So, after three days of hashing out various problems I've almost got the game playing stably again. It's been quite a struggle. Below I've listed my installed mods. The ones you don't recognized are mods I've cobbled together myself for one reason or another.
I seem to have hit a snag that I can't fix on my own though and I would appreciate some help. The problem is that half of the time when I start a game, the crew won't talk to me. All the rest of the audio seems to work fine, but the crew remain silent. They will respond in text in the message box, but no vocalizations. Also the Navigator will not give me a depth under keel estimate--neither verbally, or in the message box. Usually, to fix this, I have to end the mission and reload it. Normally after one or two attempts, the crew will talk again and I can play the mission without problems until I have to quit and start it again.
This last time, however, I can't seem to correct the problem. I restarted the mission over and over and the crew will not respond verbally to my orders and the Navigator will not give a depth under the keel. Any idea what is causing this? Thanks for any help.

Thanks Sober, I'll reshuffle and see what happens.
One question--I see that everyone and their uncle says that New UIs TDC should be installed after both IRAI and FX Update, but I read in the installation txt where TDW instructs that it should be installed after the New UIs--here is the text.
from IRAI readme: This mod is fully compatible with my UIs mod. You have to install my UIs mod first then install IRAI and then the add-on mod for no hydrophone on surface if you want that.So which is right? And if the New UIs mod goes last then that automatically breaks at least the "no hydrophone at surface" fix since it overwrites the .sim file in question.
Edit--After redoing the mod order using your (Sober) list as a guide, the problem seems to be corrected. So, fingers crossed that the game stays playable.

After reading Sober's mod list, now I don't feel as timid about the amount of mods I jam in to the game:DL.
Thank you Sober for posting you mod list as the order will be very helpful to me as well.

The Navigator's sound clip processing is very wonky. With mods, it has a habit of bugging out and not playing files. This is especially true when attempting to get depth sounding readings. I have found out that this bug is also embedded somehow into save files, mildly corrupting the save so the remedial action I found that clears the bug does not work.
I have found that this works for me when I see the busted Navigator bug. (I only run New UI TDC 0_6_8 mod by Darkwraith)
1. Confirm the presence of the bug.
2. Exit completely out of the game and Uplay.
3. Go into JSGME and unload all mods.
4. Restart game in vanilla and load subject save.
(The game will register 50% hull damage upon loading. Ignore it.)
5. Have the Navigator take a depth reading. He should now speak properly.
6. Exit the game and Uplay.
7. Reload all of your mods in the appropriate order.
8. Load the game. The navigator should now function and speak properly.
9. If the bug is still present, repeat steps 2 through 8 using an earlier save or an autosave until a save functions properly with this correction.
10. Upon clearing the bug, delete all saves where the bug is present. I have found that these saves are corrupted in such a way that the bug is always present, even if cleared.
I hope this helps.:)
I get the 'no depth gauge' bug and also no crew speech bug too, usually when I reload a save in mission, and its random too - sometimes I get the voices, othertimes not.
I am more and more thinking that either I go back to SH4 and finish off a campaign I am enjoying, or reinstall SH5 and start again.

I do not know what to tell you about the "no depth gauges" bug. I am nigh certain of how to rectify the "no navigator voice" bug. It sounds like a mod soup issue. Since I only run one mod, I cannot be certain.
Try this, if you haven't already:
1. Save the bugged patrol.
2. Start a historical mission.
3. If the bug has vanished, quit and reload your old save.
Simple as that, worked for me.

I should re-read what I type. I mean I get no readout from the Navigator when I press 'depth under keel' sometimes when I reload in mission, as well as messy sound and no voice input from the crew. Engines and environment are fine however. If I then restart the save game, it sometimes comes back, but not all the time. This could be a hardware issue as my soundcard is not perfect on the motherboard I am using, so that is also possible. I have had a few other problems though, like destroyed graphics on the map not showing, kills not registering etc, so as I am new to this game I am thinking that I will reinstall and start a new campaign from scratch with limited amount of mods. So many mods, such a headache at the moment to find the right install process.

known game bug. Happens in stock game. Save and reload usually fixes it.

I still get this all the time. At least every other time I boot up and /or place a new mod in, there goes the "Depth to Keel" callout as well as Ship spotted callouts. This works; One go out of the game, take a mod or two out of the soup temporarily.
Reboot the game. Test the depth to keel. It should be working. If it is, try placing the mods back in, if the callouts disappear again, now you know that it is a mod soup issue.
Mine definitely is a mod issue which kinda' scares me because of the mod that might be causing the issue is a very "must have" mod :o. I hope I can get it resolved, but for now I keep a couple of mods out. It might simply be a question of the amount of mods. Other players seem to circumvent this problem. Anyway, try this a couple of times, it might help.
Good Luck. :salute:

Doesn't sound like a mod issue to me. Sounds like you're running out of system memory :yep: Depending on the mods installed each could 'use' memory to some degree. My UIs mod loves memory.

Just upgrade your system to windows 64 bit with 8 gigs of ram . This should fix it .
