I forgot where I just saw this, but what do you think it is?

I'll give you a clue it is 3,000 feet wide, several miles long, it is in the desert and it is man made ...

Its in the Gobi desert in the PRC.

Some thing for calibrating their photo recon birds IIRC.

One theory is that the Chinese have rebuilt the streetgrid of target cities in the desert to run military excercises on them. Or targetting practice for drones, missiles - anything like that.

I saw a photo not long ago about these Chinese desert diagrams, where they had rebuild the streetgrid of Manhattan that way. :o

More possible its for calibrating spy satellites than recon birds.

Artillery/rocket test range. Used to test their guided artillery and rocket sensors. Specifically road and intersection discrimination.
