Hey Guys (and gal(s)),

I have been in contact with Neal the last few months talking about doing a Senior Project that has some sort of connection to Subsim. Well, we've been discussing about redesigning and developing a whole new system for the USS Cavalla website: http://www.cavalla.org/

Things are going good, and today we had a presentation today. I had someone take our picture with a poster we developed.

A big THANK YOU to Neal who's been working with us all semester, and giving me a chance to really share my interests with my educators. :ahoy:

Well, I am actually currently the only member of Subsim. My smooth persuasion skills influenced the other guys to help me out.

I'm the one on the far left, I know Steve probably recognizes me from the 2008 meet.

In the middle is Sammy, he's taking the role of 3d graphics artist. I taught him everything I know and he's taken that and ran with it. He's now a better 3d artist than me which is a benefit for the group :yeah:

To the right is my friend Steven. He's large help with the web design. He's pretty fluent with HTML, CSS, and XML.

If you're wondering, I'm lead on the project, which means I also have the most work. Because of my previous knowledge of working with games from the Indie Forum located on the forums here, I really wanted to make a 3d app for the site. Since I'm the only Senior in the group too, (graduate from college in May) I have had the most programming classes.

Here is where the catch is, they don't teach us game design or development, so it's been a HUGE learning leap. I feel confident I can handle the programming of the simulation aspect by myself from my previous experiences, but this is larger than just an indie project.

I'm handling it like a real world situation than just for a letter grade. We have bi-daily meetings, and all collaborate on each others work. This whole semester was on design of the project, and starting next semester (though we're starting a little early during Christmas break) we begin full development on it.

Stay tuned!

You've broadened out a bit Chad since we met in 2008 and I mean that in a positive/complimentary way :sunny:

Good luck with the project

Wow, this looks very promising, thumbs up :yeah:!
I especially like the 3D art, but also the main site looks fine, good design and usability - except for the pix on the left, they look a little "unsettled", but that's just nitpicking me ;)

Only one tip: don't use too much contrast on the site, (100%) white on black can really tire the eyes quite quickly when reading long texts, at least my old eyes, lol. Or give the viewer a choice via a different CSS style, that's quickly done. Personally I think the default skin of this board here, white on dark gray, is very readable.

So do I get it right that you guys do not "only" want to make a 3D tour (which is enough work on its own), but also want to bring in some simulation aspect?

Anyway: good luck with the realization! :salute:

Jusy saw this.

Ever hear of that story of the Aussie that blasphemed in Saudia Arabia?

Well, now you need to show up at a subsim meet, then it would be Jim, mcbee, and Herr-Berr!:hmmm::D

:O: Thanks Jim, I can think Jessica for that. After 6 months of dating, she packed 45 pounds on me.

I was one year out of high school when you met me, and now I'm graduating college. And getting married with the same girl who "broadened" me.

Hey, you need to post the Cavalla's artifact wishlist.
