No 10 has said none of the proposed changes being discussed about the future shape of the European Union would trigger a referendum in the UK.
Germany and France are developing a plan for greater fiscal integration among the eurozone's 17 members ahead of a crucial meeting on Friday.
Many MPs say this would alter relations with the EU and a referendum is needed.

Sometimes they seem to be right when claiming that the EU's determination to bring all and everything under its control, leads too far. Beside that, blocking Britain damages the EU, and since I would like to see the EU being destroyed (and in the long run replaced with something more effective, more focussed on economic issues exclusively, and less megalomaniac and less totalitarian and no longer obsessed with regulating even the smallest details of social life and how to pick your nose in the politically correct and physically unrisky way - "Protect the children's noses at all times !" :yeah:), I pragmatically on occasion line up with the blocking Brits, depending on the individual issue. That must not be same thinking and same interest of them and me, but is pure pragmatism of mine.

whatever skybird's feelings on the desirability of Britain single-handedly destroying the Eurozone, i think it is politically impossible for Cameron to do that. Hence no referendum.

Note this is not about EU-wide issues, it is about the Eurozone, so does not directly affect Britain.

For Britain to say in this crisis, everything in eurozone decision making must stop while we have a referendum on whether you should be allowed to do this, is inconceivable.

Considering that Osborne has recently been making statements to the effect that a more-integrated eurozone would satisfactorily resolve the crisis from Britain's point of view would make a decision to hold a referendum even more mysterious.

Since time is of the essence at the moment, even if britain said it would hold a referendum, the referendum would never actually happen. The time involved would be too great, and so the eurozone plan would have to choose:

a) alter its plan until britain no longer threatens the referendum
b) disregard Britain's opinion on the matter, and relegate britain to the de facto second tier in euro politics, which is something that Britain is strongly against.

as England always boxing against the EU and trying to seed distrust, a sentence of my tutor of the last 6 months comes to my mind (and yes, he's an englishman):

"What do you expect of an Empire - to join a Union ?"

I do not think the EU is a bad idea at all, i just do not especially like the currency. That one could not be without the other is a common misconception though.

Fraid so, this Euro experiment is exploring new horizons of mass brain washing.

When I voted "yes" it was for a common market within Europe, a good thing then and still is good, the idea of a united Europe trading as partners is a great idea.

But the idea of a central Euro middle class elite pulling all the strings of power without the responsibiliy is exactly what Napoleon and Hitler wanted, total control. Britain is being swamped with legless law that nobody wants of intends to uphold, those that make law break the very laws they make. I am almost certain that Europe will in the near future phase out British common law and replace it with a Euro Law.

sorrrreeee to all for this outpouring of passion, but the sense of dispair I feel for Britain and the loss we have undergone due to Euro is without parallel in our history, politicians have gouged the heart of Britain to the point that "right" is ignored for political expediancy.
