I have heard of this problem before but unfortunately can't remember the reason...possibly lack of RAM?

If you have the nav-map ctd while draging it, avoid dragging it. Instead zoom out and zoom in where you want with mouse scroll (map can also be dragged this way). This reduces the chance of ctd crashes.

Another option would be to press the Ctrl key and left click the mouse cursor where you want the map to be centered on.

The only CTD's on the East side I've ever had was when useing the Reloaded Hack (Star Force fix).
I ran SH3 through a disassembler (IDA Pro) to debug and the crash always happened in an area of code Reloaded 'fixed'.
I don't recall testing the same way with the latest releases of SH3 which never had Star Force.

hi Privateer,
still happening to the non starforce versions too . if you could 'locate' what is causing this with your tools would be very nice becuase it is really annoying when happening

I'll try to run some testing this weekend to see if I can duplicate the CTD.

I noticed this Bug since many years during playing too (with each Super-MOD)!
I think it has nothing to do with too little RAM, because I´ve this CTD from time-to-time with my Win7 64bit and 8GB RAM!
I hope one day this problem is solved!
Best regards,
Magic

I haven't had a chance to test yet.
To be honest? I've been working on breaking a compression scheme used in SWTOR 3d files.
That involves my most hated enemy. MATH!!

Clicking near the Black Sea still produces a CTD when zoomed just up from the closest view.
Error message..............
sh3.exe: The instruction at 0x3337 referenced memory at 0x3337. The memory could not be read (0x00003337 -> 00003337)

hi Privateer,
very nice that you managed to reproduce the issue,
you think that this can be fixable with any way ?

Jimbuna posted a work around that avoids the issue so maybe one could use that as a way to create a patch to the exe?
I'll need to do alot more tests before I can say much to be honest.
I may need to go to a dual monitor setup to speed up things also.

Probably the best way forward in the short term till a fix/cure is sorted.

I assume this issue is doomed to sink deep into the abyss right ?
I assume this issue is doomed to sink deep into the abyss right ?
I think you could be right about that ..
i'm gonna try jimbuna's workaround for now, would be nice to have it fixed
and not worry about crashes just for looking at a map :arrgh!:

Let's not forget that workarounds are certainly somewhat satisfactorial and temporary things in worst cases. But if even a slight chance exist fixing it for good, it should be done without prolonged delays IMO..
I can understand low interest of ppl about this issue who do not suffer from random CTD's while moving the nav map around. Hard to tell what triggers it for some ppl, since others can't reproduce CTD in map even when they told what should they do to make it happen. I also suffer from map ctds for ages now. If needed I can cooperate in solving this problem.

Just had this happen to me. It is very frustrating since I had just finished being depth charged for a few hours and had finally tricked the escorts into moving on and was on my way back to port because of damage and the game crashes when I go to set the waypoints.

You know what is said about "assume" right?
:haha:
Your not going to get an answer if none can be provided.
As far as I know?
I'm the only one even looking at it and all I can say is.......
"Yep, I keep crashing in some situations."
It's constant, it's repeatable, and I have not found a fix.
h.sie and Stiebler are MUCH better at this type thing then me.
Go bug them for awhile.
I'm pretty much tired of this type postings.
And since I don't play the Game?
It really, REALLY does not matter much to me any longer.
Use Jim's work around or bitch all you want.
I look forward to your future whining and snide remarks.
Have a nice day Richard.
(And I do hope I get another infraction for insulting a member! It would be well worth it in your case.)
