View Full Version : dumbist ways you have died?

So here is something that has been on my mind. I will often save because I seem to either have a habit of CTDing or dying in some really stupid ways, like once I was playing and was in perfect position, then im informed that im being attacked. Little did I know the game threw me on the surface even though (yes I checked) I didn't order it. Or because of lag when you go to do an order it does not do it. Its happend to me where a sonar contact was getting close so I clicked silent running and because of the lag it didnt do it no matter how many times I mashed the button. So I guess my question is what is the dumbist way you have died, and also what is your limit of WTH IS THIS that you dont accept it as a death and go back to a prior save?

Sounds to me like you have a very slow CPU. Or were running at high TC. The game rarely, if ever, lags for me, but I could imagine it would be unplayable if it did.

How well does that Ram Booster work and is it user friendly :06:

www.GameBooster.com (http://www.GameBooster.com) might help because it shuts down unwanted programmes giving more power to you system - i got it to shut down about 30 programmes running in the back ground. but with www.AlacrityPC.com (http://www.AlacrityPC.com) i got it shut down near 100 unwanted programmes running in the back ground - but it is a bit of a devil to set up yet worth it when it works.

What would you recommend Vendor ... :hmmm:

I have 2 gigs of matched ram and I can't afford to up-grade right now so a little boost would be nice :yep:

Sounds like a high TC issue more than anything. I make a point to never issue any orders while in TC > 8, and then only in an outside view. If I'm running > 2048 TC, I have to hit the normal speed key at just the right moment tO get it to accept the command, so there is some lag at those speeds. AlsO occurs at tcs> 64 while near a port.

Just make a point of returning to 1 TC before doing anything.

The best is no TC at all,:yep:

Plotted the Kiel Canal outbound course, but forgot to give the order to follow that course. Sailed straight from the dock -- into the nearest battleship! D'OH!

This is what I thought the thread intended.

Did a crash dive straight into the ocean floor.

My crew does not know how to plug a leak...she just filled with water.

EDIT: Well I didn't order the crash dive, Bernard did it while everyone else was at their battlestations.

No need for concurrent duplicate threads, but since it's actually a gameplay issue, we'll let it slide.

It was not the dumb way I've got sunk, but dumb place, where I was caught by suprise.

Serving in Med. Flotilla I tried to pass Suez canal. After entering into canal at Port Said, I thought I will never see any hostile unit untill I reach red sea. However while approaching the Great Bitter Lake I was schoked seeing few British DD cruising around that lake :o. I tried to pass through them silently underwater, but one of the DD has picked up his course right at me, and rammed me probabaly not aware of my presence there (cuz DD maintained his cruise speed) I bet I freaked him out too ATM :haha:. From that moment action took well knows scenarious, Pings, DC, exploasions and fanfaras..

who ?

who ?

The idiot we all blame when things go terribly wrong.

There is no possible way that any one of us who are well trained, steely eyed Kaleuns would ever make a bone headed move, push the wrong button, surface at the wrong time, run into docks, hit flank speed by mistake when stealthily making an approach with escorts nearby, not diving when Italian aircraft are spotted after they have switched sides in Sept. 1943 while cruising the Med, torpedoing a neutral, almost torpedoing a German ore carrier off the coast of Norway, etc.

Someone must get the blame and that person is the crew member on every one of our submarines named Bernard.

:)

Every u-boat is issued a Bernard upon it's first cruise. He is usually stored in the forward head with the extra rations, sometimes moved to the external torpedo stores when they become available. Most kaleuns only deploy the Bernard when a scapegoat is needed to take the heat from BDU, but some less experienced, and occasionally senior ones, let him roam free, thinking the extra man power may be useful.

They soon learn.

Mine was a late war transfer from Herr Balz's boat. I figured how much damage could he do with his trumpet?

lol some good stories, I died once while exiting the port, it gave me a was destroyed by pressure, and I was on the surface with no damage, nor did I get a message saying we were under attack. Epic fail game is fail lol.

You probably hit a mine. In GWX friendly ports have them too. You can locate them with one of the pull-down maps in the Nav Map screen.

After putting two torpedoes onto a small merchant from 500m, I received the "she' going down" signal. I instructed Bernard to return to course and set about rearming my torpedoes, setting the watch and radio my status. When I hear the tearing of metal and I am taking damage. I go to check my status and see damage from the bow to the command area red and filling with water. Repair crews to to the damage area. I check with the Watch officer and find no ships in sight. Not a DD??? Finally I go on deck and find my ship lodged behind the stack of the sinking merchant and unable to repair the damage. I join her in the cold depths of the Atlantic.

BAD BAD BERNARD!!:damn:

Coming back from my 1st patrol, had braved the English Channel, and sunk 3 ships - all British, whilst coming back to Wilhelmshaven (on the surface) I was on 8x TC and got the usual ship spotted message, normal for that area, as there is usually quite a bit of traffic. Went to 1xTC & had a look - small German cruiser - VERY close by. All of a sudden & without provocation they started firing on me, I couldn't get away & ended up dead!

I am on SHIII downloaded from Steam, on Windows 7 - GWX 3.0 - anyone any idea what might've gone wrong or was it simply a glitch?

I had only recently saved the game so I tried again & made it back to port with only one weird happening - as I was about to enter the dock entrance, I started taking damage - I thought here we go again - but had a look outside to find a large Destroyer which had been moored at the quay had exploded & was sinking. No sign of enemy ships or planes around - that was another strange happening. Again, anyone any clues?

I am v.new to this game & only just learning the ropes but finding it hugely enjoyable & atmospheric.

Good Hunting...

In rough weather ships often smack into the quay and take damage, sometimes until they sink... pretend it's sabotage :)

In GWX you start in August 1939 - one month before the war started. The purpose is to get some training in, and at that time all ships are neutral. You sink one, you become the enemy of everybody for the next 24 hours.

When and where did you last save the game? If you save within sight of port when you reload all ships lose their waypoints and crash into things.

Nah my save was in open water before you navigate into the Wilhelmshaven area so I don't think that would be it.

Strange that no-one fired on me the 2nd time though, not consistent.

In my first foray into this game many moons ago I navigated my way into the middle of a lightly guarded convoy. I was merrily sinking everything in sight when the last Destroyer got on my tail. I thought "hey I'll disguise my signature by ducking beneath the nearest sinking ship they'll lose me". Well they lost me alright but the sinking hulk got me. Silly me.

Surfacing next to a distroyer??

Chugging along I had been down at 13m for some time, I decided to surface to get some air to the boat (I was in a storm and had submerged for a more comfy ride during the night). My sonar-man had not reported any contacts for some time so I didn't even bother checking the periscope. I surfaced and BANG!!! American "c" class distroyer pounds me to kingdom come!

I say "C" Class as It was a class of vessel I've not encountered before. Will look it up and msg back!

I think it looks like the vessel was a "Clemson" class. I encountered her just off the american eastern seaboard, not far east of where atlantic city lies now..
