She is beginning to remind me of Thatcher in the sense that she would never let go of anything she believed in (I liked Thatcher though) :03:

Merkel urges euro fiscal union to tackle debt crisis

German Chancellor Angela Merkel has said Europe is working towards setting up a "fiscal union", in a bid to resolve the eurozone's debt crisis.
She told the Bundestag that a new EU treaty was needed to set up such a union and impose budget discipline.

Don'T be mistaken, she has no real vision - only a talent for opportunism. She wants to preserve her power and knows that anything more of what she gave us in the past weeks and months (in Euro commitements) would not make it through the Bundestag, he rown party, and even the Federal Constitutional Court is up in arms against her, having made it clear (and currently does again) that any more direct contributions to the Euro without consulting the Bundestag, would be a constitutional violation.

In fact, Merkel'S inner circle is working on tackling the Constitutional court. They want the court being dismantled of any rights and responsibilities touching European issues - the court should not be asked again on any political decision on Euro-level. Parliamentarians then would have no way anymore to interfere and to stop or at least delay the government's ambitions to come to terms with the Southern Europeans and paying them out. Also, Merkel has a notorious tendency of trying to bypass the parliament, and making secret decisions behind locked doors. The parliament should have no right to call the Constitutional Court over that happening, too.

It will take more time and it will be sold under different labels - but the German giovernment WIULL finally accept something that equals today'S description of Eurobonds and a collectivising of European debts. Trust me, they will. They will also carry on to sell national state'S sovereignity and national aprliaments - and in the end the electorate - to Brussels. Germany has just given in to a key decisiopn in the ECB again: the chief economist, a German, had resigned recently, and was to be replaced with a German again who was known, like his predecessor to stand for a stability culture in currency poltics, and agaiunst the ECB buying toxic bonds like crazy. The French protested and started a rumble, wanting to send their own French canddiate who thinks the ECB should more obey to political demands of governments - especially the French one. Germany unwilling defended half-heartedly, and withdrew after short time. It's now going to be the Frenchman. And in the board of directors (17 seats, 6 of them having 2 votes), a rumble started between northern European minority (led by Holland and I think Finland, also Austria), and the benefitters of an inflationary ECB policy, the southern europeans, who form a majority by seats and votes and although contributing just a small ammount of money can outvote Frnace and Germany any time who together come up for over 50% of the ECB's capital). A Spaniard has left and Holland refuses to accept that another Spaniard (there already is a second Spaniard in the board) replacing him, Holland argues that the voting power should more reflect the reality of financial net contributors and thus Anorthern European should replace the Spaniard. Germany so far has refused to give the Dutch any support for that demand. Austria and Holland are said to registrate that with raised eyebrows. Which means they are questioning the intellectual sanity of the Germans.

Which I do, too.

Malta and Cyprus together bring up just 0.3% of the ECB's financial capital, but can block the v ote of Germany which pays in 27% - 90 times as much as Malta and Cyprus. And the club of high debt states can overrule any voting by Germany and France who toegther pay in more than 50% of the ECB's capital.

And Merkel refuses to change this...!?!?

Do not mistake Merkel for Thatcher. When Merkel took over, I made that comparision myself, years ago. I meanwhile learned that both are LIGHTYEARS apart.

Next year is election year, if I counted correctly, and the liberal-conservative coalition of the present will not win it - no chance. Either a red-green coalition, or a black-red "grande" coalition will replace it. Anyway, the red influence will increase dramatically. With the Constitutional Court being taken out, and a majority agreement in the Bundestag to change the German constitution to include a passage that rules that Germany must abandon national sovereignity and identity and become the EU itself, you will see a massive change in German position. And our neighbours will abuse the German insanity as best as they can. I cannot criticise them for it.

It is the elite'S pet hobby pushing this against the explicit and overwhelming majority opinion of the German people. We get excluded, we do not get asked, we get sold and betrayed for ideological day-dreams. And the older I get the more I start thinking that apparently nothing but a chaotic armed revolution will make them stop. I am still not that far that I would embrace it.

But I would also refuse to resist it. Because those at the very top - simply do not stop. And it is like this with so many other issues over here, too. Politics hopelessly disconnected from reality and sense of realism.

BTW, this.

Ten years ago and 20 years ago, they set up rules for the Euro union. Granted, the design is incompetent, uinsufficient and dilletantic. But nevertheless we also know and see by now that these rules had been violates from beginning on, and still get violated, bend, turned, ignored, broken.

We remember the corrupted way of the EU when breaking its own rules after public votes prevented the planned European constitution. It then got snkeaed in through the backdoor, with the friontdoors all locked to the public, and under explicit ignorration of the rules one had set up before.

Why is, how could anybody believe that it would be different with new rules being introduced whiule the same violaters of rules are still in place? Will the corruption in Greece all of a sudden come to an end, which would mean an enormous cultural change? Will politicians stop making tax presents that in principle the budget of their states canot afford, just to bribe the voters for the votes? Will actors suddenly stop trying to dodge and avoid rules and laws and treaties? Will the egoism of parties come to an end, and the people in europe by majority all of a sudden become altruistic, reasonable and mpore "European"...?

You know what, Madame Merkel? Take your precious new rules and new EU-treaties and shove them where the sun never shines.

Perhaps the final/true comparison will be her own political party bringing her down just like the Tories did to Thatcher.

Her party? Does not exist anymore. We call it no longer the CDU, but Merkel'S club. All names of some callibre who could be a threat to her, she has complimented to meaningless posts, mobbed away, frustrated until they voluntarily quit. All personnel standing for something that made the CDU the "CDU", is gone since long. It is now a club in support of complete whateverism and opportunism, with no own identity. The party has Merkel as an outstanding name - and after Merkel, there is a long long line of emptiness.

No PM can be like Thatcher, as know politician can be as evil as she was(although Cameron is trying very hard to be) as to what she did in the 80s

I know what your referring to but I will disagree with you on the stance she took when the Falklands were invaded.

There wasn't another scoundrel in Westminster who would have had the stomach for the immediate formation of a task force with orders to repatriate with force, if necessary.
