Dan, the world of Subsim says THANK YOU for all you've done for
sub games,
the Silent Hunter Series,
cool stopwatches,
friendly meetings,
dud torpedoes,
interesting demoes, and so much more.

Any further details to share?

Dan was always a great guy, and an awesome supporter of the community. He took the time to help people when he didn't have to. My personal thanks.

Dan, it was great to meet you back in 2008. You've always been a great supporter of the community and I wish you well in your next endeavour.

Hope you'll still be around SS to chat now and then as well.

Cheers and thanks Dan! Hope you're moving on to even better things.

At the end of the day, no better testament to the work you've done than the fact that SHIII scene is still 'hot' and full of fresh blood nearly 7 years since the game was released. And that's one heck of an achievement for a game you helped make :yep:

Forget tight schedules, underfunding, intrusive DRM, bad marketing & licensing Seawolves, Ubisoft's biggest mistake yet is letting a true pro like Dan go. Someone who put their heart & soul into a product and listened to and communicated with his customer base to deliver as many fixes and features as his limited budget would allow whilst leave things as open and moddable as possible for the commmunity. We can only hope that Dan becomes a freelance game designer/developer of naval games at some time in the future and "returns to the fold".

Thank you for all you have done for the naval simulation community & best wishes to you & your family for the future.

I was unfamiliar of you until today, but knowing all the joy Ive gotten from the Silent Hunter series, and because of SH3 I might join the navy for submarines, I will differently say good bye. You might have possibly changed my life around (financial wise, assuming I become a submariner) because musicians don't make much money at all, and SH3 lead me to obtain knowledge of submarines enough to want to work on one.

Thanks!

I have this great idea for a sub sim see ... all we have to do is package it with great add-on's that you can't do without to make it more fun and extend it's shelf life on your game shelf.

$10.00 for the game at all the check out counters and
then direct them to here subsim for the add-ons

except I barely have enough money left over to buy the darn thing ...

but still a great idea

good luck Dan

Only picture of Dan and I together that I know of was the Live broadcast from Neal's house.

I suppose the series will die out now? Or at least be a shell of it's former self. Kinda like any modern warfare game after the first one, when they canned the series creators.

Why you little.... :)

Thank you, my friends. You, the community, made it all worth it.

In a sense, I feel I have taken more than I have given here on Subsim. This is esp. true as in the last part of my SH career I was less involved in the detail work - had more guys to lead - which means i had less technical info to give to the modders.

It also didn't help that after passing 30 my memory has started going down down down...

It was time to move on. I was burned on SH, and it was long past the time to move on from Ubi. I just couldn't afford to simply leave after SH5.

Now its a new job in a smaller studio and company, with great friends. Its also a smaller job and a totally different project, but something with connections to another passion of mine and my first projects. Its not the excitement I felt when coming to Ubi ("a sub sim!? I have to be there!") but Im not that young anymore ;)

So ... no more subsims for now but i didn't come here as part of my job, and I won't stop coming.

On behalf of the 24th Flotilla, I give you our thanks, and a farewell for your new job endeavour. You have been an important part of the development of 3 of our favourite subsims, all of which have changed things in the way we sailed our boats, to have a modern approach at it, while also having fun.

On a personal note, I must also say that it's been a pleasure meeting you in person back in Copenhaguen in 2009, a nice opportunity to finally meet some of the men behind our sims (a thrilling event given my professional background), and someone with whom I found out to have so many things in common, specifically, our love for subs, and airsoft hehe. :DL

Thanks for all the hard work Dan , for steering the modders in the right direction on occasions , and for being a part of the SH team.

Good luck in all that you do from now on :DL

Hey Dan! I've never met you, but thanks a lot for all your work on the Silent Hunter Series.

I've been a long-time subsim player. My first submarine game was some program in the old TI99/4A. I've played many others over the years as PC technology advanced - Silent Service, Attack Sub 688, Seawolf, and Wolfpack.

The Silent Hunter series, particularly Silent Hunter III, has given me literally years of entertainment.

Great job!

Steve
