If that’s a concern for anyone, though, it is more likely Romney than his Democratic opponents, whose view of Gingrich was summed up Monday by Massachusetts Rep. Barney Frank in a press conference announcing his retirement.

The veteran congressman gave voice to what most members of his party are saying in private, and some are gleefully admitting in public: that they believe Gingrich would be a general election opponent beyond the Democrats’ wildest dreams.

“He would be the best thing that happened to the Democratic Party since Barry Goldwater,” Frank said.

Newt Gingrich? what is da "Base" thinking? nominating him would practically garantee Obama's re-election.

I have said it before but will repeat; Barack Obama will be re-elected for a second term, and it will not be due to any political strength or success in office on his part. The Obama administration has been a failure, and this race is Team R's to lose, which they seem to be on track to do in spectacular fashion.

***8220;He would be the best thing that happened to the Democratic Party since Barry Goldwater,***8221; Frank said.Interesting analogy because Lyndon Johnson, the man who defeated Goldwater, was the president who escalated the Vietnam advisors mission into a full blown conflict. Most of the names on the Vietnam memorial wall are there because of his policies.

"Best thing"? For who? Certainly not America.

"Best thing"? For who?
He said the Democratic party. For some that's all that counts.

Newt is ok. A bit stiff, uninspiring, emotionless....well... he is Newt.

I agree with Tak and have in the past. BO will win and not for his stellar command of the office or current affairs.
