Hello all, I don't know if this was already answered or not so sry if this is like double-posting.
I am new to this forum so please excuse if I accidentally break any rules atm. I recently installed SH2 again on my computer and got it to work but i am having issues with the main game. I got Pacific Aces installed, and I am able to do pretty much anything in the game. The mouse is extremely sensitive though, don't know how to fix it atm. The issue I am having is with the periscope.
What it looks like is a tiny hole in the socket that makes it almost extremely impossible to look at anything on the surface when at surface or periscope depth. I tried a few things but none have worked. When i use to play this, the view of the periscope was so much bigger and not a tiny hole as if i was trying to look through it from like 5 ft away.
If anyone knows a fix for this and can provide one, I be much obliged.

WELCOME ABOARD! :sunny:
And no, you're not doing anything wrong. It's been a long time since I've played SH2, but did you try clicking on the little hole?

Yes I have. I tried to click on the hole both left and right mouse-clicks. Nothing, All i can see if i tried is small bits of water and the periscope does move but its ridiculously hard to see anything through it like ships and the other stuff.

I know there's a simple answer, but for the life of me I just can't think of it. Hang tight and be patient; sooner or later one of the Pacific Aces team will see this. They always do.
@ Killerzone22! Welcome to SubSim,:salute:
Can you post a screenshot? That would help a lot diagnosing the problem :hmmm:
P.D. I'll be out till late sunday evening or monday morning, so I wonˇt be able to answer soon, but I will take a look at it as soon as you can post the screenshot

I'll post 2 so you can see it raised and lowered. Mostly likely you only need 1 but just incase.
that's the periscope lowered

That's the periscope raised.

Ah I remember now ...
Well it actually should take you to the bigger screen once you click there, in the small eyepiece. But if it doesn't, then the periscope text file is not correctly installed. I remember there was an optional periscope mod, with a different style, did you use that and see if it works?

Can you point me towards it? I have the Subsim super CD but for whatever reason, i can't tell which one is the periscope mod?
Or if possible, provide a fix for the periscope file?
Hmmmm I can't find it in my files, but I'm pretty sure that if you mouse-click on the periscope you currently have, in the eyepiece or around it, it will take you to the bigger periscope screen. :hmmm: Doesn't that work for you?
I think I remember now that it was the "lite" free version which had the normal periscope, but I do not have it and have no idea if it is still hosted somewhere. :06:
Maybe I misunderstand but I will try:
Raise the scope (page up)
Click the red in the lower right of the screen to view through the scope
Z to zoom
You must be submerged to use/raise view through the periscope.
Left arrow right arrow up & down arrows to move the periscope
Page up and page down to raise lower
On the Kollmorgan scope you must secure from red before going to the attack scope (red button lower right) zoomed view. I can see it in your screenshot.
Hope this helps

I have tried that. It refuses to zoom to the screen with the periscope being bigger. What i DON'T understand about this issue is when i played this on my Dad's old XP computer or on my sister's (now gone and obsolete) old desktop computer, is that I never had this issue. Everytime i went to periscope with it raised, it automatically went to the screen with the periscope being bigger. Maybe it tried to write a file that was refused on 7 but i never installed it into the program files. I installed it outside that folder.
Btw, I don't know if its even possible but is there a way to lower the sensitivity of the mouse in-game? I move the mouse very slightly, barely even moving it from the spot and the mouse moves from like the left side to about 3/4 of the way to the other side. It would be great if this is possible but i couldn't find an option. Thanks for the help you are able to provide and hope to fix this issue soon.

That's a little hard to follow. I will try to follow it but i can't see what red button you are talking about. Please, if you can, show me where it is, but i will try my best to make sense of your instructions and follow them.
Bottom right hand corner of your screenshot - the only red down there. Submerge and raise the scope first.

Ahhh when i looked at it again, that's what i noticed, I wasn't too sure. Okay, and i have done that too (the submerge and raise periscope first, was in the middle of the day). I submerged on my first patrol when i started my first career mission. I found a contact, submerged and attempted to raise the periscope in preparations to attack, but then this issue happened. I tried other ways and they were the same. I am going with what the PA dev team and the periscope file wasn't correctly installed. I thank you for the help and like i said, i will try it but i doubt it will work. I don't know if you happen to have this installed with a working version do ya? If you do, can you send me the periscope file? or since the guy doesn't remember the name of the periscope mod. do you happen to know the name? I'll try whatever i can to get this issue fixed. Thanks in advance.
Sorry, can't send you the file because I don't have a working install ATM. However I took good notes and recommend the following for flawless performance and no JANUS errors. Also recommend installing and running in 1024 (see below) to run PA in all its glory including the outstanding Kollmorgan scope.
The default scope in Pacific Aces uses a similar structure to the original SHII scope. However when you install Pacific aces you are given the option to overwrite this default scope with the Kollmorgan authentic US scope by Darkstream. Be warned that this scope uses large texture plates and will have trouble running on some systems.
To operate the Kollmorgan scope, raise it ( pageup key) and then click on the small red button (bottom right) in order to go to the zoomed view ( attack periscope). Here you can operate the scope with the arrow keys, and zoom from 1x to 4x and back with the “Z” key.
If you are in “Rig for Red” status it will be necessary to use the command “Secure from Red” before going to the zoomed view, or you will not be able to see anything clearly!
#3. below, Project Messerwetzer, eliminates the need for the 1024 patch but allows 1024 resolution.
1. Clean Install of SH2
2. Install SH2 Patch 1.1
3. Install Project Messerwetzer
4. Install Vicker's mods
5. Install PA 1.0
6. Install PA 1.1
7. Install new PA Sound 1.1
8. Install glitches patch that includes dive bubble for PM
9. Lethal radius mod (used 5 DepthChargeJP*.ADF files)
10. Active sonar hack ... edited the 10 SonarActive, SonaractiveUS, SonaractiveJapan, etc... files.
I recommend installing the Kollmorgan scope when that option presents itself during the installation procedure.

YAY!!!! It worked! The lower right red button zoomed in the periscope so i can actually see through it. Now i can see the ships that out on the surface and what not. Yay thanks so much aanker for the tip.
I wonder if there is a way to lower the mouse sensitivity by any chance?

Thanks, i might actually uninstall it and reinstall without installing the kollmorgan scope. I definitely like how it looks and all but i rather have the old periscope i am used too. Again, thanks for the help.
Good news, glad to hear you got it running!
I want to install PA now - I miss it. Burned out on SH4 .... lol
Happy Hunting!

Edit: regarding the mouse, maybe make a compromise adjustment on sensitivity through Control Panel

What about the dreaded, "Reinstall everything from scratch" Option? While severe, if you can get SH2 running properly without PA installed it might point out where the problem came in! :)
ChristopherT
You're right IMO, the "Reinstall everything from scratch" option with PA is quick, easy, and cleans everything up... and, if you like SH2, the double install is nice although I prefer the Pacific.
I have done that so many times I have a PA 'big' folder with exe's in numbered sub folders - step1, step2, etc.... (pardon the pun) ... lol

heh, the ironic part was that there was never an issue. I just never knew that i had the kollmorgan scope mod installed and I was freaken out because my scope wasn't working and I had almost everything working. I never knew about the button on the lower-right corner would zoom it in. heh, the mod almost screw me over but luckily, aanker knew about this mod and helped me. I uninstalled it so now I have a working periscope that I am used to.
Cheers mates and thanks for the help again.
Happy Hunting all

I'm glad someone was able to help. I vaguely remembered the button but wasn't sure I was right, and I didn't see it in either screenshot so I didn't say anything. Good news. :sunny:

I hate to resurrect a dead thread, but: Did anyone ever find a solution to the SHII mouse sensitivity issue? No matter stock or modded PA, my mouse jumps at the slightest touch - it's way too fast!
Running Windows 8 here, everything in compatibility mode (Win XP SP3)

I hate to resurrect the resurrection of a dead thread but I had that over-sensitive mouse issue a month or so ago. I could not select options with the mouse which totally disrupted any carefully laid plans or escapes. So I patiently sought a solution through a process of upgrade eliminations. The result will probably not please many.
I just didn't load the Messerwetzer upgrade. I don't play online and I'm pretty sure no-one does any anymore.
The mouse is now stable and reliable and das Boot is back under my command.
When I realised this, I reinstalled the Messerwetzer just to be sure and the mouse turned into a rat again.
Hope this helps someone. Love this old SH2 game.
Yes I think PM does increase mouse speed for SH2 and DC . It's not listed in the PM Readme -but it does. At that time it was desired. Although PM is primarily a mutiplayer fix , it has other features like secondary and magazine explosions, damages worsen over time etc. I found the best solution for me playing DC on win7 or 10 was to adjust mouse speed slower through windows before playing.
