Though there are still mods for 1.4 in the download page (just read the name of the download file, as it usually will mention starting and ending version of the install, meaning, what it was and what it will become once you run it. Also, you can check out the info field on each one of them to be sure)
Beware though, mostly everything now is for 1.5, that is, with the u-boat missions add-on.

Welcome abroad midnightrider1818.:salute:
I've never played the older versions of RFB, but the newer versions can't be all that different, right?
First off, the graphics are improved and the game will be more realistic, as far as ship maneuvering, sinking mechanics and traffic routes. I believe the air traffic is more realistic too. Make sure you install any mods using JSGME. Good luck.

Hi, welcome to Subsims and SH4!
To run mods for the game you will want to install JSGME first. You can get it here:
http://www.users.on.net/~jscones/software/products-jsgme.html (http://www.users.on.net/%7Ejscones/software/products-jsgme.html)
Just follow the instructions on installing it (very easy, it goes in the same folder as your SH4.exe program).
Then you use JSGME to import your Mod (RFB, etc), and activate your Mod (again, very easy, the instructions show you how to do it in a couple of clicks).
I'm using TMOwTw myself, because it's an intermediate step between the stock game and TMO (which is much more realistic/difficult).

I think most of the mods are in a compressed file format like 7-zip. You will need to use 7zip or similier program to unzip them so they can be installed. Then they can be placed in the appropriate folder(s) and activated with JSGME.
You might want to consider getting the SH 4 Gold edition ( the v1.5) as almost everything is made for it now. If you get a good career going, you won't be able to port it into a v1.5 modded game.

Ahoy Midnightrider!
Welcome aboard. I'm not sure if you listed your system specs or not but some of these mods are quite large. If you want to keep your auto-targeting I don't think RFB lets you use this feature, (someone else chime in if I'm wrong about this) but it's in the RFB manual anyway.
As for mods, even with 1.4 you can load one of the environment mods like "Real Environments" or "Pacific Environments" and I think each has a version for 1.4 "cause I remember using them before I upgraded to 1.5.
Then for a Nav-Map, take a look at the "Nav-Map Makeover 1.2" in the missions and maps page, which I'm pretty sure will run with 1.4. The first one (1.1) does for sure and that can be found in the Gameplay section.
One more that you might check out for interior eye candy are the "Interior Overhauls" by Vickers03. There are versions for about four or five different boats depending on which one your currently using, and these are in the graphics section as well.
Anyway, enough outta' me. Half the fun is exploring these mods and tweaking the game to your liking. Hope you like the Nav-Map though as I can't play without it now.
Good Hunting.

You can go to the Ubisoft website to get a 1.5 download. I'm pretty sure that's where I got mine. This website may have it somewhere as well.

Don't tell anyone, but 11 (or is it 10?) of the 17 previous posts are by midnightrider. Get 1.5 and join the party. As for mods, it is not possible to say what you need or what will help you learn to play the game, as your skill level is unknown. Start in the Skippers Bag of Tricks sticky thread.

You have to learn how to use JGSME. There are some posts that give instructions. Someone may find them for you and post a link. You can try search for them in the mods forum. The link to the JGSME program is in the Popular Mods sticky in the Mods forum. Figuring out the game is not simple or quick. You do not tell us how much experience you have, whether you use manual targeting, etc. So it is difficult to give you specific game help at this point.

Don't worry, JSGME can be a bit tricky at first. Let's make sure you have everything in order (you may have it working by the time I write this).
It sounds like you've done most everything right, you copied the JSGME exe file to the SH4 data file and opened it. Now when I did this, it was supposed to auto create a MODS folder which it didn't do. I had to create a MODS folder inside the SH4 file. Then you placed the mods you want inside the MODS folder and you could see them when you activated JSGME. Be sure to create a desktop shortcut of JSGME from the one in your SH4 file (so the path is correct).
Double check the path of your JSGME, it might not be correct.
Make sure you open the JSGME exe inside the SH4 folder. I have had to do this a couple times before. Sometimes it doesn't take the first time.
At any rate, you should see results after a couple tries, that's the SH4 way.
Good Luck and Good Hunting

JSGME and the MODS folder that it creates should not be "inside the Data folder". From the instructions for JSGME, copy the icon to the "Start In" folder. If you select your shortcut for SH4 and check properties, the "Start In" folder is:
"C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter Wolves of the Pacific"
The MODS folder should be:
"C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter Wolves of the Pacific\MODS"
JSGME should be:
"C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter Wolves of the Pacific\JSGME.exe"
You did the steps right, you just put it in the wrong folder, so just take it out of the Data folder.

Peabody saves the day---again.
The MODS folder should be:
"C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter Wolves of the Pacific\MODS"
JSGME should be:
"C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter Wolves of the Pacific\JSGME.exe"
Isn't it better not to put SH 4 in the Program Files folder? Windows Vista has issues with this, if I'm not mistaken.
