View Full Version : Severe stuttering and blank skies after a save

I've run into a bit of a hitch. After saving before an attack on a lone merchant, and reloading once or twice to remember how fire torpedoes successfully(!) SH3 seems to have ground to a halt.

Everything was fine, and I'm using GWX with only a few mods. After a simple in-game reload however, everything went wrong. I had no sky at all, just a blank night sky with no stars or moon in. The moon was however still reflected in the sea, despite not being in the sky. The following morning, there were no clouds, but a hugely bright, nearly white sky overhead.

Coupled with this, my framerate has plummeted to approx 2 or 3fps, which is completely unplayable.

This has continued even after ending one patrol, docking and starting another - it's just coming up with no sky and an unplayable framerate, despite making no changes from a successful situation before a savegame.

Before I go putting system specs and all sorts up, I thought I'd post to see if this is a familiar problem - it was all going so well!!

It would appear this is SOLVED.

For a nice change, the first thing I tried worked! I had the ATI Tray Tools utility running alongside the normal ATI catalyst control centre. After a restart (to try and cure the first bout of stuttering - possibly brought on my too many things running with SH3 windowed), this had reloaded, causing a conflict.

Quitting Tray Tools from the system tray and forcing the AA through the main ATI Catalyst centre seems to have restored my skies and frame rates! :)

Thought I would share in case anyone runs into similar problems.

be careful about saving within 50km (?) of any other ships, as it can frequently corrupt the save file.

Nice. Glad you're sorted and good hunting! :arrgh!:
