Funny crew

Pretty successful 1st war patrol. Around 20k tons sunk. I have one torpedo left, and I think I need to use it or I'll get another assignment. I would rather head back to reload and get air search radar.

Stalking a convoy, hoping for a small tanker full of gasoline. They are starboard, and I'm keeping them on the edge of visibility so I can judge their speed and pick the right time to intercept.

There is an escort hanging around. On each round he gets close enough to make me nervous, although I'm pretty sure everyone is blind in this game. He probably wouldn't spot me if I rammed him, but I'm not counting on it.

On each turn the escort comes close and then veers off out of sight. I watch him and worry, until he goes back into the murk. At which point my crew calls "ship spotted!", which freaks me out. Did i miss another escort, because i was fixated on this one? Then I realize they just noticed the one I've been watching for several minutes, which is now out of sight. Duh! Thanks guys.

So I order flank speed, and because there is a ship supposedly in sight, the second officer whispers back, "yes sir.". After which he screams out the order "AHEAD FLANK!!!"

Are they mocking me?

20,000 tons is a pretty good patrol. I think I'd take that one fish and head home if you can't get a really good shot at that convoy. You might get a nice easy target that one torpedo will maybe take down.

If you don't call in they won't give you another mission.

Sometimes the crew isn't all that sharp. A little experience may help later.

Thanks! I've been playing a while, and lurking here learning. I'm on full realistic targeting, but like the external cam and view stabilization. I don't use the cam to cheat. Just to watch things sink.

Using RFB and RSRD.

So it isn't my first patrol. Just the first one on this career, because I've been trying not to take mulligans.

I got sunk last time for the dumbest reason, so I hope I am smarter this time. I wouldn't mind making it to 1943 for once.

Will they really give me another assignment, if I only have one torpedo left?

And I just spotted a tanker in there. Seems like a good way to use up my last torpedo.

Don't know about RFB assignments but in stock and TMO I've only gotten RTB once.

In the early part of the war I'll try to get three objectives done, you get upgrades quicker that way, than don't call in after that. Mostly because I'm out of torpedoes or low on fuel. If I can I'' take a long way home and see if I can find something. It always seems that you run across good targets and have nothing to shoot on the way home.

I once ran across two unescorted Contra Verdi liners, no torpedoes but a full load of deck gun ammo. "What the heck" I say. The second one went down and I had something like 5 rounds left. It was quit a chase as the two went in two different directions, took more than a couple of hours real time but sure was fun. :woot: :D

One fish to the funnel on a tanker may put she dead in the water and you can give your deck gun crew some experience once the convoy moves on.

Gotta have the ex cam on, too many good things to see. :yeah:

Missed with the last torpedo. I had the convoy lined up, and they changed course on me. Instead of taking my time to figure out the new course and speed, I just rushed to line up on the new course and tried to get the TDC to do the work. I must have had the speed too slow and missed behind the tanker.

The destroyers don't seem to be using their sonar at this point. I'm not forced to be especially cautious.

I can't complain. Over 25k tons and not a scratch on this patrol. Getting home is the next challenge.

From what I've read, 25k is pretty unrealistic. But I kept getting lone merchants thrown at me. Can't turn those down.
