View Full Version : A few SH5 questions...

OK - how can I steer a certain course without going to the nav? There is no compass?

Assuming that there isn't - is there a mod that provides some sort of actual control interface?

Is there a mod that changes "extreme speed" to "Flank"? That has to be the most redonkulous thing I have ever heard.

I admit, I am struggling to understand a lot of the "design decisions" here. For all of you who have had this game for a while, forgive me for likely raising questions that have been discussed already.

There is no way to "jump" to stations? I played this on a friend's pc a long time ago, and the running around was cool - but its starting to get old already.

Aiming torps - ok I read the thread on it - but perhaps I am dense. People are talking about not lining up the numbers - but I can't even line them up to start with - what the devil kind of aiming system is this? (Yes, I will use auto aiming until I am familiar with everything else!)

How do I set my depth? I want to dive - but "periscope depth" is too deep for me to see anything - If I want to stick an extra meter of scope out of the water, I should be able to. If a destroyer makes a run and I want to add 20 meters depth as he does - I should be able to.

I feel a good game under the hood - if I could just GET to it.

Your help is appreciated...

I'm not going to be much help, having just started out myself, but a couple of observations.

I think it's a actually a direct translation of the German term. Silly perhaps, but precise if true.

I'm sure I read that someone has made a teleport mod. My own opinion is that the best thing would be a "Walk To Stations" function, in which you press a key and are walked to the station in real time.

You can toggle the compass, and if you click on it, it will show you a full 360 degree thing.. at least it did it my game

I have a couple questions myself. Figured id' add them to this thread instead of creating a new thread about the same thing.

The collective sum of questions i have, was the game breaker to me in the past:

1.) Is the sonarman reporting depth charges fixed yet, or has a reasonable/functional workaround been achieved?

2.) Is the extraordinary long battery recharge time fixed yet?

3.) Has depth keeping issues when diving below 183 Meters been fixed yet?

4.) Destroyer shadowing you at a fixed distance regardless if you were detected or not? (Approach the destroyer and it went away from you to maintain a fixed distance, run from it and it would speed up to maintain that fixed distance. Surfaced, or submerged, it didn't matter, he was on you like a tick, always maintaining a certain distance)

5.) Are ships in harbor still too stupid to get the hell out of the way? In Sh3, and SH4 they'd move if a collision was imminent . In SH5 they won't. Makes for leaving and entering harbor extremely tedious. Particuarly through Kiel or its canal.

IIRC the first career I started, I had something like 30% of fuel and I could keep 198m at ahead slow, for several hours.
I was trying to avoid detection by a destroyer. And it worked.
So I have to test it again, but it seems that the amount of fuel ( torpedos as well?) is another factor.
