Some mods when extracted have the main extracted folder , lets say sobers fog mod . Inside this folder might be 2 folders , 1 called MODS and 1 called documents folder . Inside the MODS folder might be another folder which is called sobers fog mod . This folder with the data folder inside is the one you install . So just look at the folder structures after extracting .

1 - ..am I suppose to line up the green line on the highest point of the ship or the command deck.
2 - Also, which is more reliable the command shift keys when the person tells you how far or the stadi.

My answers;

1 - Line up on the ship's highest point, ie the top of the mast.
2 - I'd say the stadi is more reliable.

But should I use the guy who tells you the range for a double check kind of thing?

I'd suggest you don't use him. Those crew members have proved to be anything but reliable.
I can't say why, maybe they need training :O: but for me it's been like that.

Not using the assistance will learn you to gather the target info yourself so even if it's a more demanding way youäll gain from it.
And quicker become a skilled captain :up:

One of the big complaints about SH3 was that the WE Assistance was too perfect. I'm pretty sure this was an attempt to make it more realistic, so it would no longer be just a cheat. Maybe he gets more accurate with multiple readings? I don't know.

I remember that from SH3 and I hope this is just that, an attempt to improve.
Anyway, so far I haven't played much with WE Assistance just because he wasn't improving much over time.

Learning to use the stadi can take some time.

Yes, it matters if you set the wrong distance in the TDC. Multiple readings are needed to get a fairly reliable estimate.
Of course can it be nerve-wracking to make as many readings as possible but that's just like in real life.

I don't know if you've seen this site yet; Stoianm's Video Tutorials (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=181538) There you find quite a lot of useful videos.
