Anyone else recognize the narrator in the video in the BBC link? He was one of the narrators to the modern battlefield series or some name like that. I watched that entire series, wish they'd make more of them.

Dan Snow, son of the Swingometer ;)

There'll be a series covering archeological digs on World War II sites early next year I believe, of which the Spitfire will be one episode. :yep:

Just teasing. "Made in Britain" was meant to be praise, and it was, and I agree. But it put me in mind of a British firm that was legendary for its bad products, so of course I just couldn't resist.

I thought the ability of bogs around the British Isle to preserve things was widely known. I've read stories about people from the middle ages and earlier being well preserved thanks to them.

Awesome that they managed to restore the gun and get it to fire, would love to be able to ride in the backseat of one of these fighters one day.

And of course my warped brain started turning 'bogs' into some kind of ale and "people from the middle ages" into "people in their middle ages", and you can figure out the rest.

Seriously, though, I too think that it's purely awesome that they have the gun in working order.

Why do you think we gave those to you?

Don't get cocky, in case you forgot you boys payed real money for these:

Lets review:
Sherman Firefly and Mustang: Highly effective designs modified by the UK in to better designs after America gave them to the UK.

The M3 Grant: A outdated, poorly designed piece of garbage that was considered acceptable to the British army so much they spent all the British money in America on it.

Umm, the Mustang was designed by North American at the request of the British. They were asked to license-build P-40s, and said "We can do better". They had the prototype built and ready to fly in 120 days, which leads me to believe they had already designed it and were just looking for a buyer. The point here is that they weren't given to the RAF either, but bought and paid for.

Of course, I guess that is mitigated by the fact that it was good enough for Dan Aykroyd too. :hmmm:
