View Full Version : undesutable proof that our civilization is doomed.

People here have been focusing on all the unimportant stuff like the economy, politics, and international relations.

This has blinded everyone from the real threat. Perhaps the Mayan's were right after all. Civilization will end in 2012. The threat has been creeping up on us like an insidious cancer that will rip this culture asunder! Asunder I say!! :stare:

4 April 2012. Mark your calenders. It will mark the darkest of all dark ages. An abomination upon humanity itself will be unleashed. It may already be too late. For all that is holy for you, protect the children!!!

The Three Stooges Movie. :nope:

Will Sasso as Curly
Sean Hayes as Larry
Chris Diamantopoulos as Moe

Why would anyone think that trying a remake of the Three Stooges is a good idea in 2012.

1. If they keep the characters and the comedy like the original, I really doubt the comedy will scale successfully to the 21st century

2. If they "update" the characters it will be an abomination on humanity.

It gets worse. Evidently, one of the supporting case is something called a "Snookie" :wah:

I don't know exactly what a "Snookie" is but it probably doesn't bode well.

I am a big Three Stooges Fan. I collect their short films and I really enjoy their brand of comedy. But I also recognize that their type of comedy is from another era. Things they did were funny in the context of their time.

Here is the plot from IMBD.com.

While trying to save their childhood orphanage, Moe, Larry, and Curly inadvertently stumble into a murder plot and wind up starring in a reality TV show.Could this suck more? :nope:

There are so many other old comedy teams that could scale to the 21st century. Laural and Hardy, Marx Brothers, Ritz Brothers, and the Slate Brothers could all be scaled to the 21st century (OK maybe not the Slate Brothers. :D)

Sad times indeed.

Arrrg typo in the title. Can a mod correct my fat fingering?

Western civilization was doomed the moment diaper changing tables appeared in Men's lavatories.

It's worse than you thought.

Snooki, The Situation, and JWOWW — along with the rest of the smush-crazy gang from Jersey Shore — will appear in the upcoming Farrelly brothers' Three Stooges film, a recreation of some of the trio's classic skits.

Don't give them any ideas! If they even THINK about making a "Marx Brothers" movie without the actual, you know, MARX BROTHERS, I will have to get medieval on someone's @$$. :stare:

It won't be the first Three Stooges movie.

I dunno Hap, I unless the roles are being performed by guys named Howard or Fine it most certainly can not be funny.

Again:

Not a lot of laughs there (though I appreciate the motivations that went into the portrayal.)

Its NOT the THREE STOOGES - it can't HELP but but suck!

Even THE THREE STOOGES(angel's choir) sucked in THEIR movies! Only the two reelers shine.

They'd have to get four brothers, or four guys who look so much alike that they needed the funny getups just so people could tell them apart. And even then... :nope:

Exactly. Plus they were brothers who had worked together forever and in doing so honed their routines, their timing, and their entire schtick as an ensemble.

I could see making a movie *about* the Marx brothers, where actors are playing the brothers themselves, a biographical drama. That, to me, would be interesting if it could be done well.

But trying to make a "Marx Brothers movie" is a whole different thing. In their films, the MB - Groucho, Harpo, and Chico at least - were brothers playing "the Marx brothers" playing a cast of other characters... even if the characters they "played" were essentially still Groucho, Harpo, and Chico. It's not like you could remake "Duck Soup" and just get someone to play Rufus T. Firefly. You'd have to get someone to play Groucho playing Rufus, and that's a whole different thing.

Edit: on a barely related side topic, I can't believe I've been using "Rufus T. Firefly" as the default Kommandant's name in my "test" SH3 careers, when the *obvious" choice was Otis B. Driftwood.

Hmm...

I would have thought Captain Spaulding would be appropriate.

Not with the possibility of "Herr Kaleun Driftwood" floating about.
