ARgh!! Steam dont work and CD version wont work

Bought ganme on steam worked for a but then an update wouldnt work any more , tried so much and many different things.. so I see a boxed version for sale at a good price buy it install and same BS wont start get a message saying
failed to start error Oxc0000142
Any ideas>?? my system meets all requirements to p[lay

I'm no expert, but it sounds like there are leftover items from the Steam install. Did you remove it completely? Uninstall the game, then go into My Documents. There you'll find a folder labelled 'SH5'. Remove it and everything in it. Then Reinstall the game from the disc. It should work, but of course if it doesn't there is lots more help to be had here.

I uninstalled everything as best I could Ill go look again to make sure but I did a search on my computer to find anything related to sh5

Went through everything and deleted anything related top SH5 from the CD and from steam re installed and am still getting that same message 0xo0000142 still dont start re installed game launcher etc??? Any ideas please? thanks

Googling 'error Oxc0000142' (which really should be the first thing you do) reveals a large number of potential causes, most of which seem to be connected to a corrupted user account, or by not starting the program as 'Administrator'.

It could also be a registry error; if Steam has left its SH5 information in the registry, reinstalling it to another location could cause conflict in the registry due to the difference in install locations.

You could try something like CC Cleaner's registry cleanup option, or attempt to install SH5 under a new user account (make sure you run the install as administrator).:salute:

Ill try the new user account option forst.. all I have to do is make another users account on my system if im not mistaken right?? Thanks for the input from all
