View Full Version : U.S.S. Batfish
Someone once asked me if I was possibly drumming up interest in a SubSim get-together. Oklahoma has a Balao on the grass (U.S.S. Batfish). Just throwing a hook out to see if anyone or how many may be interested in having some sort of event in Muskogee, Oklahoma. It's not the tourist magnet some places are but, we'd really just be there to gather around a sub and eat bar-b-que anyway, right?

Great pics! Are you part of the restoration and maintenance crew, part of the reenactors or both? I'm kinda interested.

No. My son and I just drove out there for a weekend from Denver, Colorado to check it out. We were there for a probable grand total of 4 and half hours before we turned around and headed back to Denver. It was about a day and half drive each way.

Sign of devotion to the hobby, such a roadtrip and turn-around. Good on both yas.
So far the initial response from Mr. Rick Dennis (the park manager) is positive. Now it comes down to how much interest there is, a good date that most everyone can make (preferably with decent weather) and the logistics and cost of entertainment, food and facilities. This could be an event of mutual benefit.
So if you guys have the desire and can provide some date recommendations that most all could make for the coming year, I'll contact local talent and caterers to get a cost per head (with some left as a suitable donation to the Batfish).
P.S. Rick said there is a really good possibility that the Batfish's living history unit would make itself available to give this more of a living history gala affair type of event feeling. The event would be open to the public.
