when usin' the magnetic detonator how do you determine the depth set for the torpedo to run ?
I usualy go down to about 7-8 meters if its a medium deep ship, very deep 10-12.
The recognition manual shows the keel depth for each ship type. I usually set it .5 to 1M deeper than that figure for a keel shot.

It's a bit of a gamble, especially when the sea is rough. If the water is calm, ships don't bob up and down much. Then 0.5-1m under the keel for magnetics shots, like HW3 said. Impact shots really depend on the curve of the hull at the bottom end. I usually take 2/3rds of the keeldepth as lowest for impact shots, to have them impact on the vertical side of the hull. If they hit the curved bottom section then they might bounce off and dud.
But if the sea is rough, the up and down going of the target throws every rule-of-thumb up in the air also.
