I can't say it would be a bad thing.

The guy is dirty. I mean in every sense of the word, pure slime. Self serving trash, and a scourge to the proud Italian people.

Maybe if he loses his post, he can finally be prosecuted for some of his misdeeds.

Or he can resist and they can "pull a Mussolini" on him?

Why has it taken so long? In most other countries he'd have been ousted long ago.

Berlusconi can't do anything. When we was thinking to emergencies financial, he have writed a law where he left nothing in inheritance to the ex-wife. I hope you think we are represented by Giorgio Napolitano and not by Berlusconi.

Still, I know this is repetition from me, can't help wondering why there is not so much trash talk about Italians as people given they elected the guy (I have many Italian friends myself btw) where with Greece it seems some stereotype the population as much if not more than their crooked government. :hmmm:

To a certain extent of course we get the governments we deserve, in all systems.

Berlusconi or no Berlusconi, ZeroHedge just put out a report by Barclay's to stick a fork in Italy, because it's done. Beyond the point of no return mathematically:

http://www.zerohedge.com/sites/default/files/images/user5/imageroot/2011/10/can%20italy%20save%20itself.pdf

According to them, 5.5% yield was the point of no return for Italy, the event horizon. Lately I've read people, say nah, that's 7%, and then even 8% as the yield now approaches 7%.

Note their conclusion is only the ECB can save Italy by massive printing. And that will happen over Germany's dead body.

Gerald
11-09-11, 12:51 AM
Since Berlusconi is removed from the picture, it will probably be
"change" but in any form will be interesting, as even Italy, is in trouble economically .... but which countries within the Union have a fat wallet? :hmmm:

Respenus
11-09-11, 06:17 AM
OK, this is all went down south sooner than I had expected. Honestly, I'm starting to get a tad more worried than before. Perhaps it's time to phone the local elites and see if the shelter has any room left in it ;)

In all seriousness, Italy's borrowing interest rates have gone through the roof and unless something is done quickly, we'll all be buying some foreign currency in order to ensure that we retain some value of our savings. I know the euro wasn't the best construct, but it did have its advantages and if it goes down the drain, the IMF report of a lost decade may just extend in length.

They might have worked if they had been implemented years or months before the current crisis. It's probably too late now. All we have at the moment is more and more austerity duct tape being applied, which doesn't exactly inspire investor confidence. It sure won't grow any economies.

So, let's see; we have a US/Euro financial crisis that was caused by spending money we didn't have, and exaggerating that money's value as backing for highly leveraged bets. And we are planning on fixing that problem by leveraging more money we don't have. Only a bunch of money meddling politicians could come up with that idea. :-?

IMHO the Eurozone and possible even the EU is now doomed to a slow but catastrophic meltdown.

Thankfully we never joined the Eurozone so hopefully we (as in UK) won't be as hard hit as some of the members.

Merkel may yet end up with a damning epitaph.

Italian yields have just breached 7% again on the 5year and 10year. No re-inversion yet.

Everybody now realizes the only thing that will save Italy is massive printing by the ECB. They're begging for it across the board, demanding Germany be brought to heel. I think there is an off chance that the German leadership might give in, but if they do, they'll soon be new German leadership, and that leadership will pull out of the EU in no time flat. :D
