11 11 1941

Patrolling east of the Cape Verde Islands made sound contact with a large southbound convoy. It took two days to establish its speed, course and get into attack position. In dailight and calm seas, we fired four torpedoes and sank a satisfactory 16,000 BRT.

Getting away from the heavy escort force was a routine operation.

Taking advantage of the benign conditions, transfered 4 deck storage torpedoes and resumed the chase. There was rich booty in that convoy.

For our next ambush we were on silent running doing one knot. Bernard was tied to his bunk and gagged.

The convoy was still a way off, but the bearing of the closst escort was a steady 330. For half an hour the bearing never changed more than three degrees. The escort started pingging.

"Ahead flank!" We dove to 80 meters. Depth charges exploded overhead. The Kabooming lasted 'til the convoy was well clear.

The next attack, same thing. From a long way off escort headed straight for us.

.We tried two more attacks with exactly the same results.

What is this, some claryvoyant escort??? :damn:

Actually they have this Professor Charles Xavier on board:

And you're going into 1942, when the fun really starts!

Before reinstalling some months ago, the destroyers in my copy of SH3 were actively cheating in a psychic sort of way. Patrol after patrol, they always knew exactly where I was. I sometimes lay quiet, 70m under the waves, with silent running engaged, and listen for ships. In the situations where a destroyer happened by, it would instantly head towards me, from 20km away, then start pinging and attack. In all cases, I had sustained no damage. Fortunately, they seem to have relented for the time being, and the reinstall has fixed things. Stupid cheating AI...

This is exactly how my last career ended.
April 1941 grid AM02 listening to a convoy.
Two destroyers attacked out of nowhere and THE END.

With the researching I have done, up until 1941, sub hunting was really limited and was meant to keep the boot away from the convoy. Later on however....

And yes, I understand what you all are saying, because I have had the moments of wtf, there is no way I bungled this approach.....:damn:
