hey all. Its been about 5 years since Ive played a sub sim. Was all about sh3 when it came out, and played the original till my eyes burned! I know have Sh4 because my uncles cpu would not run it(he bought it a few years back and just told me) so he gave it to me:rock:. Is there a mod that fixes "most" of the bugs and has a few changes that make gameplay a little better?? I dont remember the name, but sh3 had a big one that fixed tons of issues, and also added alot to the game.

Also...nothing to trick to install.....Im far from a computer guru!!

Thanks for any help and cant wait to back on (or under) the water!:salute:

The one you are thinking of for SH3 is Grey Wolves 3.0 Gold. For Silent Hunter 4 the more famous mods are Operation Monsoon (I think I spelled that right, maybe), Trigger Maru Overhauled, Real Fleet Boat, Run Silent Run Deep Campaign, and Fall of the Rising Sun. (Note:Not all are compatible together.) There are some optional ones too that fix small issues such as Cap'nScurvy's Optical Correction Mod, etc. As for tricks the only one I know is if you are running windows 7 install it outside the default Program Files 86x folder. If you run into anymore problems ask some of the old salts around here. They'd be happy to help. Still pretty new to SH4 myself.

All the big mods are listed in this thread and tell what they all do.
http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=155786

Quit a few mods so some reading is in order.

As Herr Rapp said put the game in any other folder but programs files.
Run as administrator. Don't use the default start icon (Sh4.gu) find the SH4.exe in the main install folder and make a short cut of that.

Before you run the game do a full reboot. Next go the the game folder and make a copy of the "Data" folder and past it into a safe place in another folders or on a disk. If you run into trouble with mods, and you will, you can just replace the Data folder in the game and not have to do a full re install.
All the game mods work in this data folder.

As stated above, just ask if you have any questions and someone will be along to give you an answer.

Welcome to the boat, again, mate. :salute:

See Wester's mod list. He has a supermod called GFO (Game Fixes Only.) He has several other mods that make minor fixes. There are also several supermods that change the game. You can find information in the link posted in the previous post. Welcome aboard, captain.:salute:

Don't know what you are running it on, but if your computer has more than 2Gb of RAM you may also wish to consider running the executable "mod" from the Download section that will allow the sim to run in more than 2Gb. This will eliminate virtually all crashes to desktop under Win7 (at least it did for me!). I don't recall the exact name, but it is pretty clear when you see it.

Good luck!:salute:
