87' Mercury Grand Marquis.

Except it was a darker brown color.

I actually saw it the other day. Most of the trim was torn off, large dent on the drivers side, bald tires, rust going through the car and trunk and trash up to the windows filling the insides.http://www.ar15.com/images/smilies/icon_smile_dissapprove.gif

Personally, I give that car credit. I eventually sold it because the number 6 and 8 piston rings were shot and the car was dumping oil into those cylinders. Based on the outward appearance I can't imagine the current owner has done any engine work.

Those 302's will run forever, maybe not well, but they will run.;)

I've since moved on to an 87' Lincoln Town Car and a 84' LTD Crown Victoria. Spot a pattern?

First and only car to date, given the cost of driving lessons, petrol and insurance, it's likely to remain that way...miss it though, no power steering (just how I like it), clunky but just the right level of electronic gizmos so that if the electronics go wrong the whole thing doesn't up and die.

It would have been a Citroen 2CV but we found that the chassis had split in half so it was condemned.

My first was an old 1953 Jeep M38 4x4 painted with a brushed on gray rustoleum paint. Top end 50 MPH. You couldn't corner hard, it would come up on two wheels and tip over doing anything over 25 MPH. And does not come with any seat belts. It was the perfect machine for kid growing up in the Panama Canal Zone.

1975 VW Rabbit, bought when I was a brand-new Ensign in the Navy.

Loads of fun, and enough room inside for me to move everything I owned from coast to coast.

My first car was a 1973 Volvo 164E. I got it was over 70,000 miles on it and I sold it with 140,000 miles on it. It had a 3 litre straight six engine that was wonderful.

Dad brought it home, piece by piece, in 3 pickup trucks when I was 14.
:nope:
By 17, I had rebuilt it to look much like the picture above.
:smug:

At 18, I dropped a 302 HO engine in it along with a total change of the suspension. (It started out with a straight 6)

Have a 1992 323f now and love it. Too bad I'll have to part with it soon as it's getting too rusty and the repairs would be way too expensive for such an old car.

Seein' as how you asked. I thought fully asterisk words were censored. Did you get an infraction for the asterisk word? No wait, you spelled out a non-word F E C K. It was the censor which made the fully asterisk word. So in reality the censor program should get the infraction right? Oh I'm all confused now.:D

Btw that was a nice li'l pony you had growing up privateer.

The only new car I ever bought, a 1974 Mustang II.

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a325/SailorSteve/Mustang.jpg

My ex-wife and I both thought it looked cool, so we traded both our cars and drove it home. Overweight, underpowered, but it looked cool and we loved it. Made many road trips in it. Then the water pump went out. German-built V-6 should have been wonderful. Thirty-five 7mm bolts to take the front of the engine off. Then the clutch pedal broke. All three pedals were mounted to one overhead bar. A brace on either side of the gas pedal, the brake pedal was in the middle, but there was no outside brace on the left side. I replaced that bar three times before we finally got rid of the thing.

For '75 they put in a V-8, and I understand they also redesigned the pedals. And, in spite of my complaints, we had some great times in that car.

Never owned one :(

In theory, my parents' 2002 Corolla could be mine for free if I just ask them and go pick it up. In practice, I just don't have the money to maintain a car (nor a reason to use it much since I live a 10-minute walk away from my job).

1949 Ford even the same color till I painted it candy apple red.

296 cubic inch flathead, by C&T automotive. Three Stromgberg 97 carbs.
Cam shaft ground special by Engle Cams for this motor.
102+ MPH in the quarter mile. Fastest Flathead in the Los Angles area. Wish I still had that motor.

Would eat 283 or 301 CID Chevies for lunch and did so often enough to provide me with all my gas money, lunch money and than some. Very few Chevy owners would believe that a Flathead could beat and Overhead Chevy.

Magic

Edit @ Priveteer My 65 Tang was my fourth car, 2+2 and also candy apple red. Wish I still had that one too.

Why did Ford feel it was necessary to make a beautiful car into the Chevy Nova part deaux :damn:

And when I have enough loot for another car it'll probably be a van, even though I can't afford the gas for one these days.

They were, if you didn't mind the engine between the driver and passenger seats (actually I thought that was kind of cool, and it made a neat third seat) and a one piece I-beam front suspension, as well as sitting on top of the front wheels with a thin sheet of metal between your legs and whatever was in front of you. The heater sat on the floor in front of the engine housing, and the grills you see beside the headlights housed little vents which you could open and have air flowing into the cabin right on your feet and knees.

But I was young and didn't mind those things. It was a great hippie/band/road trip tool.

Not at all that I remember, even here in the desert where it does get pretty warm in the summer. It was great for working on the engine if it was raining or snowing. On the other hand one winter a radiator hose broke loose while driving on a busy street, and before I could even react the entire inside was filled with steam. It wasn't burning, but I was travelling at a fair clip and suddenly couldn't see anything at all. I'm not sure how I managed to get it pulled over to the curb in one piece, but I did.

Just another (mis)adventure.

A friend of mine has an old Fiat 500, that has the engine in the back and we went for a small trip this february and the driver and passenger were freezing at the front while I had to even take of my shirt and even then I was sweating

Is it that time of year again for the first car thread:yeah:

Mine was a 69 olds cutlass, $300, no heat. The pretty girl across the street always wanted a ride to school so I hooked at a hair blow dryer inside it in the morning to warm it up.

Next one two years later was a 72 Dodge Charger, 440 mag....that was a car.

My first car was a 1970 Mercury Cougar. It was 12 years old at the time I bought it. Not quite as nice as the one in the picture. I don't have very fond memories of it, as it was a money pit on wheels. I particularly remember the defective power windows that were always stuck down in the winter and stuck up in the summer. :dead:
