So, I cant patch to 1.2 :(

hey guys, I recently bought SH5 Gold off of gamestop/stardock's Impulse store. Heres the issue: I cant get the darn thing to patch to 1.2. I've tried using the ubi-updater, impulse itself, and even the manual .exe file. Every time I run it it tells me I"game cannot be patched from current version" The ubi-updater will patch to 1.15, but crashes every time i attempt to run it again afterwards. No error codes given, I just get the standard windows "silent hunter V has stopped working" popup. It doesnt matter whether i try to patch from 1.0 or 1.15, it just refuses to do it. The pre-run update check never detects available updates, even while running a base install.

Apparently my only options are the autoupdater, or the manual exe, but the updater only goes to 1.15 before crashing out, and the .exe just says version cannot be patched, even if the autoupdate will patch immediately after.

I feel like i got screwed hardcore, $45 is starting to look like a massive waste. Any ideas or fixes?

ubisoft game going to open folder / support / Detection Tool / gu click on button, this is the way to do it manually. I hope you like it:up::up:

Well, I uninstalled the game, re-downloaded and installed to pure vanilla. Version number at the top right sayt 1.1.5
Downloadable eu 1.2 patch (filename: silent_hunter_5_1.02_eu.exe downloaded from ubi directly) refuses to install, giving me the error "the patch cannot be installed with the current game version".
If I use the gu.exe updater found in support/GameUpdater, it will detect and download a patch, apply it (progress bar in the install wizard fills and it shows things being installed), and then immediately crash once I click Finish. When I run the game, it still says 1.1.5 and nothing from 1.2 is present. Every attempt to run the gu.exe after this results in an immediate "silent hunter V has stopped working" crash.

I'm strongly considering attemp[ting to get a refund: post 1.2 is horribly broken, and all fixes seem to be 1.2-exclusive.

Do any of you have reaper's stadimeter original stadimeter fix? I cant use the current version because the patch system for this game is fubar.

EDIT: tried the collectors edition 1.2 patch exe. Installed, to completion, no crash on finish. Version number IS STILL 1.1.5 And now the patch installer is saying the versionis currently at 1.2, yet is isnt, since the top right number doesnt match, and None of the 1.2 features are present in-game.

EDIT 2: problem solved. Impulse installes to directory c:/program files/ubisoft/silent hunter 5, Patch.exe/gu.exe installs the patch to c:/ubisoft. Moved directory and it works at 1.2.0

You did get screwed. The "Gold" edition of SH5 is a ripoff.

The regular version is 1/10 the price and you can get the extras for free.

Yeah, Gold Edition is totally not worth it in any way, shape or form. Personally I'd try real hard to return it and get a DVD version for $5 from somewhere.

I can't get the mod to work as I run it on Steam. Nothing works. I can install it, sure, but then Steam won't recognize the exe file and thus it wont ever run. Nor can I patch it in any manner either as it can't find the game when I try, so I can probably never play this amazing mod.

I'd ask for help, but when trying it almost every way I can find, I doubt it can be made to work. I'll just delete my copy from Steam entirely and UbiSoft and just watch videos. F*ck this game - at least on my end...

When you install your SH5.exe should show this verssion v1.0.5.0

Do this.
Run Your SH5.exe Application As An Administrator > Pictorial (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showpost.php?p=2204598&postcount=74)

Now do this.
Update SH5 From v1.0.5.0 To v1.2.0 Immediately After Installing > Pictorial (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showpost.php?p=2182963&postcount=5)

Your STEAM download for SH5 should be a straight forward install as there are many players using this type of installation.
STEAM does need a conversion once it has been installed to accept TDW's Generic File Patcher which is an essential application.
Recommended is to install the mega mod The Wolves of Steel (TWoS) which has a conversion tool in its installer.
The easiest option is to remove STEAM and replace it with a conventional download.
